Pakistan has accelerated preparations for the visit of Prince Rahim Aga Khan V, spiritual leader of the global Ismaili community, to Gilgit-Baltistan from May 21 to 25, where he will be welcomed as a state guest.
During the five day visit Prince Rahim Aga Khan V will tour Hunza, Gilgit, Gahkoch Bala and Taous Yasin, where large public gatherings of the Ismaili community are also likely to be held.
A high-level meeting chaired by the Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan has reviewed security, logistics and basic facility arrangements for the historic tour.
Authorities are working on travel safety along the Karakoram Highway, the possible opening of the Babusar Road, uninterrupted power supply and additional transport facilities for the visit.
For Pakistan the visit lands as a major moment for Gilgit-Baltistan, home to a large Ismaili population and the heart of the Aga Khan Development Network's decades of education, health and rural-development work in northern Pakistan.
