There is a moment on a game drive — usually early morning, the light just coming up over the plains — where everything goes quiet and you realise you are exactly where you are supposed to be.

No phone signal. No agenda. Just the sound of the grass and whatever is about to appear on the horizon.

I have been to the Masai Mara more times than I can count and that moment still gets me every single time.

June through October is peak safari season in Kenya. The grass is low, the animals are concentrated around water sources, and the great migration is moving through the Mara. If you have been thinking about Kenya, this is the window.

I plan every safari differently depending on who is going. A family of four needs a different lodge and a different pace than a couple on a honeymoon or a group of friends on their first Africa trip. The destination is the same. The experience is entirely personal.

Tell me where you want to go. Tell me who you are travelling with. Tell me roughly when and roughly how long. That is it. Everything that comes after that — the flights, the hotels, the transfers, the restaurants, the activities, the visas, the timing, the backup plan — that is my job.

You will not spend an evening comparing hotels you are not sure about. You will not lie awake wondering if you booked the right lodge or chose the wrong time of year. You will not land somewhere and realise the transfer was not included or the room is not what the photos suggested.

A full itinerary has something booked for every hour of every day. It looks impressive in a document. It feels exhausting by day three.

A good itinerary has space in it. It knows when to move and when to slow down. It accounts for the fact that you might want to stay at breakfast a little longer, or that the kids need an afternoon that is not another museum, or that you and your partner just want an evening with no plans at all.
