As January comes to an end, my healing journey is only beginning.
Today, I delve into the philosophy of and try to see how I can apply these learnings with .
Here are four principles that I’m finding to be helpful (when I remember!):
1️⃣ You Can’t Control Everything - Only Your Response.
You can’t control what happened or how someone else feels, but you can control how you react. Instead of resisting reality or wishing things were different, accept what is and focus on healing.
2️⃣ Pain is Real, but Suffering is Optional.
It’s okay to feel pain; it means you cared. But suffering comes from the thoughts we attach to that pain (I’m not worthy, I’m not good enough, I’ll always be alone, I’ll never find a job…)
Stoicism teaches us to challenge these thoughts and not let them control us.
3️⃣ Adversity is a Lesson, Not a Curse.
Every hardship is an opportunity for growth.
Ask yourself, “How can this make me stronger?
What can I learn?” Heartbreak can teach resilience, patience, and self-worth.
4️⃣ Focus on the Present, Not the Past or Future.
Regret and longing keep you stuck in what was. Anxiety comes from worrying about what’s next. Stoics train themselves to stay in the present moment-one day, one breath at a time.
