Are hotel loyalty programmes still influencing your travel decisions?

Over the years, I've seen many clients remain loyal to one hotel brand to earn points, upgrades and elite status.

Lately though, I'm noticing a shift.

More travellers are asking me to find the best hotel for the destination rather than the best hotel within a particular brand.

They're looking for the property with the best location, the most authentic experience, exceptional service or simply the one that feels right for that holiday.

Sometimes that's a well known luxury brand and other times it's a boutique hotel or an independent resort that offers something truly special.

As a travel designer, I believe every trip is different and the hotel should suit the journey, not just the loyalty programme.

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

When you travel, do you choose a hotel because of your loyalty status or are you happy to stay somewhere completely different if the experience is better?
