Private Tours in Salzburg with Austria Guide Eugene

While my guests were exploring the tunnels of the salt mines in Altaussee — the very same mines where the N***s hid countless works of art during WWII, as featured in *The Monuments Men* — I decided to take a walk along a forest trail in Styria.

After a long period of hot weather, the rain finally came, and the forest seemed to come alive again. The mist, the wet moss, the mushrooms and, above all, the fire salamanders made the whole place feel almost unreal.

I have never seen so many fire salamanders in one place before. Walking through the ancient-looking forest, with salamanders slowly crossing the path, I couldn’t help imagining dinosaurs roaming through the misty woods millions of years ago.

A quiet walk, but one of those moments when nature puts on a show without trying.

What a challenging time. September hasn’t had a single free day so far, with tours across Austria and around Salzburg — from the classic Salzkammergut Lake District and Hallstatt to Zell am See, Kitzbühel and Innsbruck.

There is still plenty to come. In a few days, I’ll be doing a photography tour with a boat trip across Königssee and a hike to Obersee. I’m really looking forward to it and will take my Nikon gear along.

Yesterday was a busy one: three Salzburg walking tours in a row, 34,000 steps and about 12 kilometres on foot. Today I’m heading to the Bavarian Alps and the Eagle’s Nest with a solo traveler from the US on a private tour.

This busy and vibrant season will continue until the end of October. Then, finally, the much-anticipated break in November — when I’ll be scuba diving in the Red Sea.

Until then, there are plenty of places to see and stories to tell.

An unexpected encounter with a fire salamander in the forests of Styria.

A lovely day touring with a family from Australia.

We visited Hallstatt, the Salt Mines, and Mondsee, where we stopped at the famous wedding church from *The Sound of Music*.

The Hallstatt Funicular is now open again after a year of construction work. The SkyWalk view is as always spectacular.

The Salt Mines have also been renewed, with a new exhibition and some laser shows. The mine is quite interesting, although I still prefer and recommend the salt mines in Bad Dürrnberg, only about 30 minutes from Salzburg.

At the end of the day, we visited Hangar-7. It happened to be a particularly interesting day, as the Flying Bulls had been performing an air show over Lake Wolfgangsee. When we arrived at Hangar-7, some of the aircraft were landing.

It was especially interesting to watch the Bell Cobra land so precisely on the platform before being moved inside the Hangar-7 building.

A very nice day with many different experiences along the way.

Busy, busy, busy! September is here, bringing perfect weather for outdoor activities and wonderful, engaged tourists. The last few days have been packed with incredible tours through Salzburg, Gmunden, Dürnstein, and Hallstatt. That means a lot of time behind the wheel, but I honestly enjoy every minute driving my Mercedes-Benz V-Class.

​One of my favorite tours is a sightseeing transfer from Salzburg to Vienna with stops at the Mauthausen Memorial and Melk Abbey, diving deep into the rich history of Austria.

Along the way, we enjoy a delicious lunch at a local winery in the Wachau Valley.

​No rush, just a joyful journey through Austria’s most beautiful regions.

​And, of course, no trip would be complete without The Sound of Music themes, listening to the soundtrack along the way!
