Meet Theophilus Grimwood, my great, great, great uncle, photographed here strolling the streets of merry old London.

Theophilus was an undertaker by profession and a Grimwood through and through. While other gentlemen spent their days discussing politics, business and the weather, Uncle Theophilus preferred the company of people who rarely interrupted him.

Family legend says he was courteous, punctual and took enormous pride in his work.

His customers, apparently, never complained. 💀

Looking at this photograph, I can't help wondering... can you see the family resemblance? 🎩

Fortunately, I have continued the Grimwood family fascination with the dearly departed — although these days I generally prefer them with a little more conversation.

Join me this Friday, 28 August, for the Ballarat Ghost Tour, or come wandering amongst the residents of the Old Ballarat Cemetery Night Tour on Saturday, 29 August.

Come along. Hear their stories.

And unlike Uncle Theophilus's clientele, you are expected to go home afterward. 💀👻

A rare photograph of my great-grandfather, Silas Grimwood the Elder, enjoying a pleasant afternoon in merry old London town.

Apparently the Grimwood family has always had a fondness for black coats, questionable walking sticks, and looking as though we know precisely where the bodies are buried.

Can you see the family resemblance? 💀🎩

If you'd like to meet the current Silas Grimwood — considerably younger, marginally more cheerful, and almost certainly alive — join me this Friday night for the Ballarat Ghost Tour, or venture among the dearly departed with me Saturday night on the Old Ballarat Cemetery Night Tour.

Book your place at eerietours.com.au.

After all… some family traditions deserve to be kept alive. 💀👻

“Told ghost story — FIRED.”

Well, that’s rather unfortunate.

Fortunately, at Eerie Tours, telling ghost stories is not only tolerated… it’s positively encouraged. In fact, they become rather concerned if I don’t.

So if you fancy an evening of murder, mystery, misfortune and things that refuse to stay properly dead, join Maria (Saturday Nights) and me (Friday Nights) on the Ballarat Ghost Tour.

Or, for those who prefer their ghost stories accompanied by an actual haunted asylum, investigate one of the many tours at Aradale Ghost Tours - Ararat Lunatic Asylum — where the stories are plentiful and some of the former residents apparently still haven’t checked out.

The dead have been whispering all week... and I believe they are expecting visitors.

On Friday, 7 August, I shall once again wander the haunted streets of Ballarat, recounting tales of restless spirits, tragic souls, and the strange happenings that still linger long after the living have gone home.

Then, on Saturday, 8 August, I shall lead the brave through the gates of the Old Ballarat Cemetery, where thousands lie beneath the silent earth. Among weathered monuments and forgotten graves, you'll hear stories of miners, mass graves, the Chinese, and the curious history that refuses to stay buried.

Should you possess sufficient courage, I invite you to accompany me.

After all... the residents are always pleased to receive company.

I'm finally home...

There is something rather comforting about returning to Ballarat.

The train has finally arrived, my trunk is at my side, and there are familiar shadows waiting patiently upon the platform. I daresay they've missed me... though perhaps not as much as I've missed them.

If you should happen to hear a second set of footsteps behind us this weekend, do try not to look back. Some travellers never truly leave the station.

Join me as we wander once more into Ballarat's darker history.

⚓ Homeward Bound...

Well, my Tasmanian holiday has come to an end, and it's time to head back to Ballarat.

Fortunately, an abandoned ghost ship happened to be sailing my way. I haven't the faintest idea who's at the helm, as I appear to be the only living soul aboard... but it seems determined to get me home.

With a little luck, I should arrive in time to once again lead those brave enough to follow me into the darkness.
