Carnarvon Gorge Canyons & Heron Island Coral Cays | 13 August 2026 Departure
From ancient sandstone gorges to the coral cays of the Great Barrier Reef, this one covers some of Queensland's best in nine days. Here are a few photos from along the way.
We were also thrilled to welcome Chris Parsons and the Weekender team back on board to film an upcoming episode, so keep an eye out for that one on your screens soon.
The journey headed west through Toowoomba and Roma into Carnarvon Gorge National Park, where the group joined Australian Nature Guides for walks through the gorge, including the Moss Garden, before lunch and a tour at Greycliffe Homestead and a night in Gladstone.
The heart of the trip came next, two nights on Heron Island in the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef, where naturalist eco guides led the way discovering the birdlife, native flora and fauna, and reef walking the coral cay at low tide. Back on the mainland it was two nights at Agnes Water, taking in the full-day Pink Amphibious LARC Paradise Tour out to the historic Bustard Head Lightstation, before a stop at Childers on the way home.
