Day Trip’s From Brisbane: If you’re craving fresh air, rainforest vibes and a waterfall that actually delivers… this is your sign to plan a day trip to Purling Brook Falls 💦🌿

Just over 90mins from Brisbane, this spot in Springbrook National Park feels like you’ve stepped into another world. Think towering trees, misty air and the kind of peace you didn’t realise you needed.

The main event? A stunning 100m waterfall cascading into the valley below. You can take in the view from the lookout (perfect if you’re not feeling overly adventurous)… or tackle the walking track down to the base for the full experience. Fair warning: it’s a decent leg workout on the way back up but worth every step.

✨ What to do:
– Walk the Purling Brook Falls circuit (about 2km loop)

– Pack a picnic and soak up the scenery

– Keep an eye out for wildlife along the track

– Stop at nearby lookouts like Best of All Lookout for insane views

💡 Hot tip: Go early to beat the crowds and bring good walking shoes, this isn’t the place for flimsy sandals unless you enjoy a little chaos.

Honestly, it’s one of those easy day trips that makes you feel like you’ve had a proper escape… without needing a weekend or a plane ticket.

Save this for your next “I need to get out of Brisbane” moment 👇

If you know, you know… and if you don’t, consider this your official nudge to go find it 👀

Tucked away in Brisbane’s oldest laneway, Death & Taxes is one of those bars you could walk past a hundred times and never realise what’s hiding behind those doors. And honestly? That’s part of the charm.

Step off Burnett Lane, push through the grand wooden doors (guarded by lions, casual), and suddenly you’re not in Brisbane anymore. Think moody lighting, leather booths, chandeliers, and over 1,000 bottles glowing behind the bar like a very classy adult candy store.

This place leans hard into that old-world, European cocktail bar vibe; the kind where you sip, not scull… and maybe pretend you have your life together for a couple of hours 🍸

Drinks-wise? It’s elite.

We’re talking:
🍷 A seriously impressive whisky collection (hundreds to choose from)

🍷 Creative cocktails that feel a little bit fancy but still fun

🍷 A curated wine list for when you’re feeling “just one glass” (it won’t be one)

It’s perfect for date nights, catch-ups where you actually want to hear each other talk, or those “let’s go somewhere a bit different” kind of evenings.

✨ Pro tip: It’s walk-in only… so if it’s busy, patience is part of the experience.

Brisbane really does its best work in the laneways… and this one is proof.

If you’re sitting there thinking “there’s nothing to do in Brisbane”… I’m about to prove you wildly wrong. 😏

May has absolutely stacked the calendar; we’re talking food, footy, festivals and just enough culture to make you feel like you’ve got your life together.

Here’s what’s worth leaving the house for this month 👇

🌉 7 May: Dine on a bridge at Paniyiri’s 50th Anniversary Bridge Dinner (yes, this is your main character moment)

🖼️ 7–10 May: Pretend you’re an art collector at the Affordable Art Fair Australia

🏉 14–17 May: Feel the chaos (and the crowds) at NRL Magic Round

🧗 15–24 May: Get outdoorsy at the Redlands Coast Adventure Fest

💪 22–24 May: Watch insanely fit humans do things you absolutely won’t attempt (or maybe you would) at the Torian Pro

🇬🇷 23 & 24 May: Eat your weight in Greek food at Paniyiri Festival (zero regrets)

🎭 Until 24 May: Brisbane Comedy Festival is still bringing the laughs

🧺 29 May–30 June: Scenic Rim Eat Local Month = road trips, wineries, and snacks… lots of snacks

🍤 30 & 31 May: Seafood Festival at South Bank (elastic waistbands encouraged)

✨ Until 26 June: Friday nights at GOMA with Olafur Eliasson: Presence (art, but make it vibey)

Honestly… the only problem is choosing what to do first.

If you want help turning all of this into an actual plan (instead of “we should do that” and then… not doing it), I’ve got you.

✨ I design custom Brisbane itineraries; whether it’s a date day, girls weekend, or just finally making the most of your own city. Send me a message and I’ll map it out for you.

Brisbane’s Best Bars 🍷 Hidden in plain sight inside Mrs J Rabbits is one of Brisbane’s most magical nights out… and honestly, the way you enter feels like stepping into a storybook. ✨🍸

You don’t just walk into this bar.
You have to find it.

Head upstairs through Electric Avenue, and keep your eyes peeled for an antique wardrobe. Yes… a literal wardrobe. Open it, step through, and suddenly you’re transported into a secret speakeasy that feels like something straight out of Narnia.

It’s dark, moody, and intimate; filled with vintage decor, cosy corners, and cocktails that feel a little bit theatrical. Think jazz-bar vibes, plush seating, and that “how is this even in Brisbane?” kind of atmosphere.

Part of the fun? It feels like a secret you’ve been let in on. You might even need to grab a password from downstairs before you can unlock the wardrobe and step inside… which just adds to the whole experience.

Perfect for date night, a girls night, or when you want somewhere a little different (and way more memorable than your usual bar).

Find the wardrobe… and see what’s waiting on the other side 👀

This is The Owelry Cafe… and if you love that Harry Potter-style magic, you are going to be obsessed.

Before you even get to the café, you walk through this incredible gift shop, filled with all things magical… and yes, there’s even a wand room where you can choose your own wand.

Then you step into the dining space… and it’s just as special. Think eclectic, cosy, a fireplace, board games… it honestly feels like something straight out of a wizarding world.

And if you’ve got kids or you’re planning something a little different, they even have a dedicated event room for birthday parties.

It’s fun, it’s immersive, and it’s one of those places that just feels a little bit magical.

If you’re craving a countryside escape without going too far, this is your sign to plan a day trip to Kalbar and the Scenic Rim 🌿✨

Less than an hour from Brisbane, this little pocket of Queensland is full of charm, fresh country air, and some seriously unique experiences.

Start your day wandering through the Sunflower Festival 🌻 (seasonal, but absolutely worth timing your visit for). Rows and rows of bright yellow blooms make it feel like you’ve stepped into a postcard; and yes, it’s just as magical as it looks.

Next, head to the stunning Kooroomba Vineyard and Lavender Farm 💜
Think rolling vineyards, a sea of lavender (best in bloom season), and a restaurant with views that will have you lingering over lunch a little longer than planned.

From there, take a slow wander through Kalbar itself. This tiny country town is full of personality; heritage buildings, local cafes, and boutique stores that make you want to take your time and browse. It’s the kind of place where nothing feels rushed.

Before heading home, make a stop at Summer Land Camels 🐪
Yes… camels, right here in Queensland! You can meet them up close, learn about camel farming, and even try camel milk gelato if you’re feeling adventurous (highly recommend 👀).

It’s the perfect mix of relaxing, unique, and just a little bit different, ideal for a weekend reset without the long drive.

Save this for your next day off and tag who you’re taking with you 👇

New digital ATD update at Brisbane airport will help make arrival into Brisbane easier for some international passengers ✈️☀️

✈BRISBANE AIRPORT: International arrivals go digital

Australia’s digital arrival card – the Australia Travel Declaration (ATD) – has launched for travellers on all international Qantas flights arriving into Brisbane Airport. The ATD replaces the old paper incoming passenger card. Eligible passengers can complete the ATD conveniently via the Qantas app up to 72 hours before the flight and receive a QR‑coded digital pass to show to Australian Border Force on arrival, making border and biosecurity clearance smoother and faster. This modern update is part of Australia’s broader plan to streamline international arrivals as travel grows and ahead of major events like the 2032 Olympics.

✈️ How to Get from Brisbane Airport to the City (The Easy Way!)

Touching down in Brisbane for the first time? One of the simplest ways to get into the city is by using the Airtrain Brisbane, it’s fast, reliable, and takes the stress out of navigating a new place.

Here’s exactly what to do 👇

🚶‍♀️ Step-by-Step: From Plane to Train

1. Follow the signs to “Trains”
After collecting your luggage, look for the clearly marked Airtrain signs inside both the Domestic and International terminals. It’s an easy, covered walk.

2. Head to the Airtrain station
The station is directly connected to the airport terminals, no shuttles needed.

3. Buy your ticket
You can:

* Purchase online in advance (often cheaper)
* Use the ticket machines at the station
* Tap on/off with a contactless card (if available)

4. Board the train
Trains run roughly every 15–30 minutes. Just hop on the next service heading toward the city.

5. Sit back and relax
The journey takes about 20 minutes to the city; smooth, air-conditioned, and with luggage space.
