‼️With the popular Splendour in the Grass festival kicking off this weekend in Byron Bay, the NSW SES would like to warn attendees that things could get quite wet and muddy over the weekend!

👉🏼The Bureau Of Meteorology is predicting the possibility of heavy rain (20 - 40mm over the weekend) and damaging winds over the coming days.

With these weather predictions, we suggest you all plan to pack for wet weather such as gum boots, ponchos and good vibes! 🕺

⛈️❗SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNINGS FOR THE NORTHERN RIVERS❗⛈️

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of the Northern Rivers.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce large hailstones and damaging winds over the next several hours.

Locations which may be affected include Tamworth, Gunnedah, Dorrigo, Quirindi, Mullaley and Bendemeer.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning
for DAMAGING WINDS, LARGE HAILSTONES and HEAVY RAINFALL

For people in Northern Rivers and parts of Mid North Coast and Northern Tablelands Forecast Districts.

Issued at 1:05 pm Monday, 8 October 2018.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Lismore, Grafton, Coffs Harbour, Tenterfield, Casino, Kyogle, Evans Head, Yamba, Maclean, Woolgoolga, Sawtell and Dorrigo.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid on 131 388, or Endeavour Energy on 131 003 or Essential Energy on 132 080, as shown on your power bill.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
* If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
* Unplug computers and appliances.
* Avoid using the phone during the storm.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
* For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.

The next warning is due to be issued by 4:05 pm.

Heads Up Northern Rivers - Dust off the Umbrellas, we're in for a wet weekend
Steady rainfall is expected with some associated thunderstorms with heavy falls up to 100mm in some areas which could result in flash flooding.

You know the drill:
* Do quick check your home is ready - clean gutters, secure any outdoor items, trim any overhanging branches
*Check your Home Emergency kit is ready
* Avoid any unnecessary travel
If you need emergency assistance call NSW SES on 132 500 or Triple Zero if life threatening
