19 Sept 2021 - 24 Sept 2021: This iconic charity mountain bike event is a self-paced, fully supported

Enjoy six days and approx. 350 km of riding as the tour traverses through lush tropical rainforest, cool waterfalls and creeks. The route concentrates on the northern part of the famous Atherton Tablelands and showcases the beautiful World Heritage listed rainforests of North Queensland. Finish on the coast with a ride along the iconic Four Mile Beach at Port Douglas, before heading back to Cairns

70% of the experience is on unsealed roads, so this ride definitely requires mountain bikes or touring bikes with wider tyres. Numbers are capped for an inspiring and intimate experience!

Day 5 evening. The riders have arrived at Julatten State School ecstatic about the ride from Kuranda. "Best day of the tour so far" is the general refrain. Perfect riding conditions and glorious scenery

Day 4 finale. All riders arrived safely at Kuranda State School after a challenging ride especially the last few kilometres. However, feedback is very positive- the ride IS challenging but the distances are shorter than in previous years which means that the pain at the end of the ride is of much shorter duration!

The ride needs to be tough but not so tough that motivation is lost and people will like giving up. Could this wilderness ride provide the perfect balance?
Will feel like it is.

On an unseasonably cold night riders told their stories of the ride so far to gales of laughter in between a delicious chicken chasseur and an equally appetising banana and cumquat compote with Mungalli yogurt. Yum!!

Riders are now on Day 3 of the FN Wilderness bike ride and having a great time!

Day 1 saw riders get on their bikes and ride to The Chimneys next to Lake Tinaroo. They enjoyed cooler weather and clear skies.

Day 2, after a breakfast full of Mungalli Creek Dairy produce, Community Foods Co- Operative and Billy's Coffee the riders hoped on their bikes to ride up Mt Edith Rd, too a look out over Cairns Valley and onwards to Kanjini Co-Op

Day 3 started in a very relaxed atmosphere as some riders choose to stay in camp, birdwatching, reading or swimming in the beautiful creek. Others headed off to Davies Creek about 20km from Kanjini.

Still others set off up Emerald Creek to the falls. There is an elevated covered platform where all the delicious food is prepared and liberally distributed to riders and volunteers.

Kanjini Camp encompasses an ecotone mixed habitat where the diversity of bird species is quite astonishing. Hot during the day and cool at night, it is the perfect time of year to be here.
