"What can I do?" you think to yourself, "even if I flew to a devastated area, I would just be in the way, another person to house, to feed. If I donate, how can my small donation help?" you ponder with a sense of hopelessness. Sometimes, people just need to know they are not forgotten. The smallest gesture of comfort (such as a pair of socks) and a message of hope can help people through their dar
kest times. At the Japan Day of Hope at Fogarty Park in Cairns City, you will be able to make and send an origami crane (an ancient Japanese symbol of hope) with a message and much needed funds to those in so much despair and pain. On Sunday 17 April 2011, we will be asking the people of Cairns to unite in sending hope to our neighbours and friends in Japan. Embrace the Japanese culture, participate in ceremony, learn martial arts with demonstrations, enjoy some shiatsu and create chalk art. Special performances from Suspekt, Jeremiah Johnson, Katherine Vavahea, Culture Harry, Cute Ukes and Singing Bird will serve up a mix of Cairns tunes and Japanese tradition. Tokyo Runway will showcase an array of edgy and high end Toykean fashions Cairns has never seen. Cairns' businesses and tourism companies have very generously donated over $12,000 worth of prizes to be won. The odds are good, the prizes are amazing!
100% of moneys raised will go to the Red Cross Japan and Pacific Disaster Appeal. Please show and share your support by attending this event.
