Matson & Ridley Safaris

Matson & Ridley Safaris Matson & Ridley Safaris is an ethical travel company specialising in life changing journeys in Africa

Co-founded by zoologist and author, Dr Tammie Matson, and Earth Hour co-founder Andy Ridley, Matson & Ridley Safaris provides life changing journeys that make a difference. After decades of working in conservation in Africa, Asia and Australia, seeing that some of the best examples of community-based conservation come from ethical safari operations in Africa, Tammie and Andy set up this business t

o focus their efforts where they truly feel they can make a difference. With the world's wildlife in increasing peril due to conflict with people, habitat loss and poaching, never has there been a greater need to show people the wonders of Africa's natural environments and, through ethical tourism, to contribute to its conservation. Tammie organises bespoke safaris that benefit local people and wildlife, as well as leading several safaris every year herself. Tammie's safaris are intimate, exclusive safaris in the best wildlife areas with other like-minded individuals, along with your own personal zoologist. They are as life changing to the people on the journeys as they are to those they benefit in Africa.

Reviews like this make us so proud of what we’ve built at Matson & Ridley Safaris, continuing to create magical journeys in Africa over and over again for our guests. Thank you Kevin and Sue!

“Another fantastic safari organised by Tammie and her team. Their knowledge of Africa and wildlife ensure with limited information of what you want to see and times of year you will end up with a tailor made safari that won’t disappoint. Every year we go we think it can’t be as good a last year but with the extensive range of camps on offer we see something different and special. The use of Eco friendly camps that put back into local communities and wildlife conservation ensure Africa can be enjoyed by many people for years to come.” Kevin, Dubai

Every one counts.

With only 20,000-25,000 lions left in the wild in Africa today, every one born is a blessing.

Working with local communities to protect lion habitat is absolutely key to their future survival.

When you visit the vital lion areas such as the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem or the Okavango Delta, talk to your guide about how your safari is making a difference.

Happy World Environment Day

On this World Environment Day, take a moment to reflect on how much we as a species benefit from nature. It provides our food and water, shelter, clean air, medicines, our physical and mental health. We need nature to survive. Having nature around us is one of the greatest sources of simple joy. What small actions can you take today to ensure nature is preserved for future generations?

Thank you Bev for your wonderful review of Matson & Ridley Safaris. We loved having you and Paul on safari with us in Botswana’s Okavango Delta! “We had high expectations for our trip but our trip far exceeded our expectations! We saw countless animals of seemingly endless variety up close everytime we went out from camp. Every day we would go out looking for a particular animal and always find it. The camps where we stayed were wonderful and the food was excellent.”
