Vale Jason Dudson

In what has been one of the hardest chapters in Chimu Adventure’s history, it is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the sudden passing of our much-loved colleague and friend, Jason Dudson - fondly known in the Chimu family as ‘Super Jase’.

Jason was more than a Destination Specialist for the company — he was the cornerstone of the Chimu Sydney office and played a huge part in the success of Chimu Adventures for the duration of his 11-year employment. His deep knowledge, wicked sense of humour and passion for sharing his unwavering love of his family were characteristics the Chimu crew loved him for.

Notably, during the pandemic, Jason’s determination and loyalty worked as a solid foundation in the success of repatriating travellers - both for Chimu and other companies - home to Australia. He then worked on selling and crewing Chimu’s scenic flights which helped the company operate during the closure of the international borders, before the integral part he played when borders opened, and the business built its way back to the solid company it is, once again, today.

Jason’s passing leaves a void that cannot be filled. We are grateful for the time we had with him, the Pearl Jam songs he shared and memories we’ll carry forward.

Jason was a devoted partner and father, and his children were his greatest joy. His pride shone through the many stories, photos and videos he eagerly shared with his workmates, as his family grew. To support the family he leaves behind a GoFundMe page has been created to help them through this difficult time, we know many will want to contribute and gratefully welcome your support.

On Tuesday the 26th of August from 12pm Chimu Adventures will close our office as we farewell Jason. Should you wish to attend his service, please contact us for details.

Every now and then, a once in a lifetime happens twice. When I went to Antarctica eight years ago, I marvelled at the pristine landscape, penguins, lolling whales, seas, icebergs and new colours and light around me. But what impacted me most was the sheer scale of everything; the silence. It gave me a new perspective. All my thoughts, attitudes, opinions, judgements and my moral compass all jiggled about in the silence and the beauty and put themselves back together differently. I became ordered...it taught me that I had time...that 'busy' was a mindset, a choice. I also came back a writer.

So, my once in a lifetime is happening again. I'm going back in November 2026 with best selling and award winning authors Jane Caro and Jock Serong. In between the daily land and sea excursions, we'll hear and learn from scientists on board our ship and Jane, Jock and I will run some literary delights from a book club, a writers on writing panel and a workshop for those who want to explore their relationship with words.
