NoTraces Bushwalking Australia

NoTraces Bushwalking Australia Bushwalking and Rafting Tours in breathtaking remote areas. Small groups that Leave No Trace! These are the places that I would like to “travel” together.

Traveling together in the heart of Australia
In 1996, I began a succession of travel and expeditions that took me all over the Australian Outback, giving me a special knowledge of the hard to get to places unknown by tourists and the course of time. Small groups
Our expeditions are built around small groups of ten bushwalkers, which allows us to meet each other without pressure and in a relaxed en

vironment. A personalized approach
We can organize customized expeditions according to your desires for discovery. We are at your disposal by phone or email to provide you with personalized advice. Travel on a human scale
We want our journeys to be experienced simply, to the rhythm of our steps and our days together. Our goal is not the number but the quality of our destinations. Nature in its purest form. All our expeditions we will discover sites preserved from any human interaction. We can drink water from rivers, we can walk for days without meeting other humans being or having to step over a single fence. No Trace
It is essential for us to leave the sites we visit in their original and natural state. Price
We offer value for money. Our expeditions are well priced, because we do not offer luxury items. You will have the services of an expert guide who will take you to extraordinary places and provide you with wholesome meals that will sustain you for each days activity.

One of the open museums in the Australian landscape.

The site known as Djulirri in the Wellington Range in NW Arnhem contains over 1200 cave paintings and, in some cases, there are more than 20 layers of art. In the country of the Manganawarl people, Djulirri is one of Australia’s most extraordinary rock art sites. A 2010 paper by Paul Tacon, Sally May and others suggests that beeswax located both under and over various paintings, like this tall ship at anchor, can help date the various motifs. In their essay called ‘A Minimum Age for Early Depictions of Southeast Asian Praus’ (Australian Archaeology 71), one date of 1664 CE was recorded for an boat image from the pre-Macassan era, opening the door to new and potentially unwritten chapters in Top End history.

I was very short on time for this one, only got a handful of photos of it and just about managed to get a shot with me in before it collapsed, I'll share that at some stage. Fun fact - with these rounded stones its often not the waves that always knock it over, particularly if its calm like it was on this day. The water table is the cause in this case. As the water below the sand rises, the sand becomes wetter and less stable causing the stones to fall. It's the sands instability that makes them fall, not the movement of the waves.

By dating these fire remains using thermoluminescence, it was possible to determine that Aboriginal people had been in Australia for at least 65,000 years.

Ancient campfires discovered across Australia provide powerful evidence of the long history of Aboriginal peoples on the continent. These hearths, often identified by layers of ash, charcoal, and burned stones, show how early communities used fire for cooking, warmth, and social gatherings. Some of these remains date back tens of thousands of years, revealing not only daily life but also deep knowledge of the environment and survival in diverse landscapes.
