Total Distance: 8,875 km

We arrived home this afternoon, wrapping up our incredible Top End adventure. After 8,875 kilometres of outback roads, waterfall swims, red dirt memories and lots of adventure, it feels good to be back!!

The car and van are still wearing a thick coat of NT dust—a reminder of just how far we’ve travelled. There’s a mountain of washing and cleaning ahead, but for now, we’re just enjoying being home.

Yesterday we rolled into Laurel Hills Feedlot (north of Clermont) after dark and were welcomed with a hot meal courtesy of Woody!

After what felt like an extra three weeks of summer, the chilly Queensland winter morning gave us a brisk wake up call. This morning we gave a hand with some cattle yard work and the boys cut some laps in the buggy.

We made a quick beer stop in Pentland and had the whole pub to ourselves!

The Pentland Hotel might be a quiet little spot, but it’s full of rustic charm – worn timber, retro décor and a classic country bar. The outdoor area had a laid back vibe and the sign out front gave us a good laugh: “Buy one beer for the price of two and receive a second beer FREE!”

We made a roadside stop at White Mountains National Park and were blown away by the vast, rugged beauty.

This park is a hidden gem – a sea of green stretching to the horizon, dotted with rocky outcrops and sandstone ridges. From the lookout, we had sweeping views across the landscape, with barely another soul in sight.

Today we stepped back in time at Kronosaurus Korner in Richmond – Queensland’s premier marine fossil museum. 🦴🦖

The kids loved the giant Kronosaurus statue out front and inside we were blown away by the massive fossil displays. It’s hard to believe creatures this size once roamed an inland sea right where we’re standing!

We wrapped up the day soaking in the warm artesian waters at Julia Creek’s replica rainwater tank bathhouses.

Twin clawfoot tubs, a barrel tap in between, and open views across the outback – it was the ultimate sunset soak.

As the sky lit up in fiery shades of orange and purple, we sat back, relaxed, and watched the sun disappear over the horizon. Pure outback magic. 🌅🛁
