We're looking forward to bringing you more video content across the season, with one Tales From The Fly episode a month for you to sit down and enjoy with your Sunday coffee ☕

Kicking things off is Currawong Lakes, an epic day out exploring everything the property has to offer on Tasmania's east coast.

Three interconnected private lakes, wild brown and rainbow trout, and some seriously good hatches of Red Spinners, Blue Damsels and midges throughout the season, with plenty of fish catching action to show for it.

- Leaders and tippet inspected for nicks

Our Learn to Fly Fish workshops are filling up for this season 🎣

The first one in the series on 19 September at 28 Gates Farmstay in the Derwent Valley, about 45 minutes from Hobart.

No experience needed, all gear provided, and Matt runs the full day from casting basics through to hooking and landing fish (and includes a chef-prepared lunch on site too!) for $399 per person.

Loch style fishing is one of the most effective and traditional techniques on Tasmania's highland lakes, and during the early season it is how the team spend the majority of their time on the water 🎣

The method involves drifting across the lake with the wind, casting a team of two or three wet flies ahead of the boat, and working them back through the water column as the drift carries you over holding fish. Reading the wind direction, managing your drift speed, and choosing the right flies for the conditions all play a part, and when it comes together the takes can be explosive.

It is a technique that rewards patience, good boat control, and an understanding of where fish are likely to be sitting at different times of the day. In August and September on the Central Highlands, loch style consistently outperforms most other methods and it was a big part of what made opening weekend so productive.
