If Currawong Lakes has been on your radar, a handful of the 2026/27 departures are already filling up 🎣

The package includes pickup from Hobart, 4 nights on-site accommodation at the property, 3 days of guided fly fishing across three private lakes, and all meals catered.

The fishing focuses on dry fly and sight fishing, with hatches of Red Spinners, Blue Damsels and midges drawing trout to the surface throughout the season.

January is sold out and February and March have limited spots remaining. Six departures run from November through April. Here's a little bit of what to expect...

The off-season is a great time to do tasks such as:
- go through your fly box
- look over waders and boots for holes and repairs
- check over your rod and reel and
- make sure everything's in order before August.

The blue damsel was one of the standout performers for the back half of the fly fishing season here in Tasmania on both the lakes and rivers.

Trout feeding on damsel flies are renowned as being extremely difficult to fool, but it seems not for this fly.

Matt's tip: "This fly is best fished by presenting it in the area of a feeding fish, then slowly twitching it on the surface of the water to imitate the movement of a damsel fly."

Not the easiest conditions last week out on the water with plenty of rain, wind and snow throwing up some challenges.

Fishing nymphs and streamers around lake edges and rocky drop offs produced some great fish, as well as some good late season dry fly fishing on the rivers.
