Two Decades of Recognition: Mandingalbay Yidinji Native Title Consent Determination

⚠️ We respectfully advise that this post includes images of Mandingalbay Yidinji people who have passed away. We honour our Elders past and present, and pay our deepest respects to our families and loved ones.

Today we proudly celebrate a significant milestone for the Mandingalbay Yidinji People — the Federal Court of Australia’s Native Title Consent Determination, handed down on 24 April 2006.
This moment in time represents far more than legal recognition. It marks the strength, resilience and enduring connection of our people to Country, and a foundation upon which we continue to build our future.

Our vision for our people, Country and culture is to illuminate potential across many spectrums — promoting health and wellbeing, fostering a cohesive community, and preserving our natural and cultural values for generations to come.

Since the determination, the Mandingalbay Yidinji Aboriginal Corporation (MYAC) has worked tirelessly to build a strong and strategic platform that delivers meaningful benefits not only to our community, but also to the wider Cairns and Far North Queensland region. A key part of this journey has been forming and strengthening partnerships with government, industry and the broader community — relationships that continue to support our growth and success.

With the support of our partners, we have achieved many important milestones, including the dedication of our Indigenous Protected Area, the negotiation of key agreements to enable future opportunities, and the creation of our award-winning tourism enterprise, Mandingalbay Authentic Indigenous Tours, along with the Mandingalbay Eco Cultural Tourism Infrastructure Project.

These achievements reflect the vision and determination of our people and lay the groundwork for continued progress as we grow and evolve.

We acknowledge and pay our deepest respects to our Elders, Past and Present, Directors and Staff past and present, and honour the future generations who will continue to care for our Country, culture and people.
