How lucky am I to lead Good as Gold Tours?
Another brilliant day out exploring Kalgoorlie and the Goldfields — and honestly, it never gets old. Every tour reminds me just how special this region is, and how much joy there is in sharing it with people who are seeing it for the first time.

From the stories, the history, the characters, the landscapes, the surprises… there is so much more to this place than the Super Pit. The Goldfields has a heartbeat, a humour, and a history that you can only feel when you’re out there in it — and I love every minute of showing it off.

Feeling grateful, energised, and already excited for the next adventure.

Good as Gold, every single time. 💛

There’s something special about wandering through the Goldfields and finding pieces of history still standing strong against the sky. These old timber structures remind us of the grit, hope and sheer determination that built this region — and why we love sharing these stories with our guests.

Every tour is a chance to slow down, breathe in the wide open spaces, and connect with the past in a way you just can’t get from a book or a screen. Thank you to all our wonderful guests who join us on these journeys — your curiosity and enthusiasm make every day out here a joy.

Here’s to more adventures, more stories, and more moments like this.

🌟 A Remarkable Gift Comes Home to the Goldfields 🌟
Every now and then, something happens that reminds us just how powerful human connection can be and how far the spirit of the Goldfields can travel.

Recently, during one of our tours, we took two wonderful visitors from South Africa, Evyn and Wilhelmien Thorne, through the Goldfields War Museum. While exploring the honour boards, they recognised a name: Private Edward Erskine Poynton, a young Boulder man who served with the 51st Battalion and was killed in action in France in 1916.

When they returned home, they made an extraordinary discovery:
they held Private Poynton’s original WWI medals in their personal collection.

And in an act of generosity that has deeply touched our whole community, they arranged for the medals to be brought back to Kalgoorlie‑Boulder back to the place where Edward grew up, went to school, and where his story began.

On Friday, the medals were formally presented to the Goldfields War Museum, where they will now be preserved and honoured for generations to come. The joy and emotion in the room were something we will never forget.

As shared in the Kalgoorlie Miner, “He’s just really keen to have the community here enjoy this, connect and reflect, so that he could give something back.” And that is exactly what this gift has done.

To Evyn and Wilhelmien, thank you. Your kindness, respect, and willingness to reconnect a piece of our history with its home has brought immense pride and gratitude to our town. You have given us more than medals; you’ve given us a story of humanity, connection, and shared heritage.

For visitors who travel to learn, to connect, and to discover the stories that shape a plac, this is the heart of what we love to share on our tours. The Goldfields is full of moments like this, waiting to be found.

Our doors and our stories are always open.

The characters, the communities, the stories that refuse to fade.

We’re just the lucky ones who get to share it with you.

✨ The Goldfields Night Sky Is Putting On a Show ✨
There’s something magical about watching a meteor shower out here in the wide‑open Goldfields. With our big horizons, crisp desert air, and almost zero light pollution, the sky feels close enough to touch and when the meteors start streaking across it, you understand why people travel the world for dark‑sky experiences.

If you’ve been waiting for the perfect moment to slow down, look up, and reconnect with the wonder of this place, this meteor shower is it.

Join us at Good as Gold Tours for an evening under the stars where the silence is deep, the stories are rich, and the sky does all the talking. Bring a jacket, bring your curiosity, and let the Goldfields remind you how extraordinary nature can be.

🌠 A night worth seeing. A moment worth keeping.

There’s something special about the way the Goldfields holds onto its stories.
Out at Goongarrie Station, even an old rusted ute becomes part of the landscape — a reminder of the people, the work, and the lives that shaped this place long before us.

On our tours, we love stopping here. Not just for the photo (though it’s a beauty), but for the feeling — the stillness, the history, the sense that time moves differently out here.

If you’re keen to explore the hidden corners and forgotten relics of the Goldfields, come along with us. There’s a whole world of stories waiting in the red dirt.

What a special day out and about.

We had the absolute pleasure of celebrating a 70th birthday with a wonderful couple on our Lake Ballard tour, and what a way to mark such a milestone.

There’s something unforgettable about standing among the Gormley sculptures, surrounded by the stillness of the salt lake, and around Kalgoorlie; sharing stories, laughter, and a moment in time that becomes part of everyone’s journey.

Thank you for choosing to spend your birthday with us. It’s a privilege to help create memories like these, and we’re grateful to be part of your celebration.

Here’s to many more adventures, and many more birthdays spent exploring the heart of the Goldfields.

Happy 70th Birthday Ian and Cathy, from all of us at Good as Gold Tours. And didn't look a day over 50!
