Spirit of the Goldfields – Where Stories Live On 🌟
Step back in time with Good as Gold Tours as we journey to Gwalia, a town rich with history and heart. This unforgettable experience captures the ingenuity, resilience, and can-do spirit of early gold miners who shaped the Goldfields — not just with picks and pans, but with grit, innovation, and hope.
✨ From humble beginnings to extraordinary journeys, their legacy lives on in the buildings, landscapes, and stories we explore.
📸 Featured here: the beautifully restored Gwalia General Store — once the lifeline of the town where miners and their families gathered for life’s daily essentials.
Come for the gold, stay for the stories 💛

🌅 Big Skies. Dark Skies. Unforgettable Sunsets. 🌌

Out here with Good as Gold Tours, it’s not just the places we visit — it’s the feeling that stays with you.

The wide open skies, the deep silence of the outback, the glow of a setting sun that stretches forever... it's peace. It's joy. It's something you carry home in your heart.

There’s a special kind of magic when the day ends under a sky full of stars or painted in colour — and we get to share that magic with you.

✨ Come see the skies that make the Goldfields unforgettable.

🌾 Stillness. Solitude. Perspective. 🌾

There’s something truly special about Lake Ballard — a place where silence speaks, and the landscape invites you to pause and reflect.

On our latest tour, we captured a beautiful moment: one of our guest photographers taking in the scene, framing the perfect shot of Antony Gormley’s haunting statues.

It’s not just about the photo — it’s about slowing down, shifting perspective, and connecting with something timeless.

Lake Ballard reminds us: sometimes, standing still helps us see more clearly.

Geotourism is a type of travel that focuses on exploring and appreciating the natural landscapes, geology, landforms, and cultural stories of a region — in a way that’s respectful, educational, and sustainable.

For example, instead of just visiting a scenic spot to take photos, geotourism helps you understand how that land was formed, why it’s important to local people, and what makes it unique in the world. It often includes visiting places like mines, rock formations, fossils, caves, or historic towns — but always with a focus on connection to place, preserving heritage, and supporting local communities.

Think of it as tourism with a deeper story, where the land itself is the guide.

A glimpse into the past at Mount Palmer Goldmine 💰✨

From 1934 to 1944, this once-bustling town was alive with activity. Prospector Augustus Palmer struck gold south of Yellowdine, leading to the creation of a thriving community. At its peak, 500 people called Mount Palmer home, with businesses, boarding houses, and even billiard saloons. But like all gold rush towns, the glory days were short-lived. By 1944, the mine ceased operations, leaving behind only remnants of its once vibrant history.

Today, you can still see the foundations of mine buildings, treatment plants, and more - but always remember, safety first when visiting!
