This water-loving town has plenty to give and is a must for anyone who is a slave to the tides 🌊. Stroll the esplanade, visit the foreshore market, take a dip in the eastern edge of Ninety Mile Beach, jump aboard a cruise 🚤, or get a view of the lakes from a helicopter tour . No visit to Lakes is complete without fish and chips 🍟 - either a decadent seafood feast or wrapped in paper, eaten with fingers, on the sand.

Enjoy winter comfort food from a range of local vendors, live music, lawn games, and a live wood carving - with the finished masterpiece to be auctioned off on the night!

The CFA truck will be back for the kids to explore and the famous dumpling eating competition returns in 2026, with both an adults and kids competition. As the sun sets, the annual lantern parade will light up the night.

Home to the largest network of inland waterways in Australia and the longest silt jetties in the southern hemisphere, the Gippsland Lakes and the Mitchell River Silt Jetties truly are spectacular!

Mitchell River meets Lake King in the Gippsland Lakes 🌊, the naturally occurring silt jetties extend for 8km.

What a day for chasing waterfalls! 💦

Basin Creek Falls is not far from Buchan, in the Snowy River National Park 🌿. The 2.6km (return) out-and-back walk 🚶 follows a steep track down through heavenly-scented bush to the base of Basin Creek Falls.

Nearing the base of the majestic single-span falls, you’ll find a grassy clearing to enjoy a picnic 🥪 with views of the waterfall to the north and the mighty Snowy River to the south.

You'll find Raymond Creek Falls 💦 deep in the Snowy River National Park, so expect a magical landscape, far from the beaten track 🥾. The falls are tucked away in a secluded corner of the park 🌿, so you won’t see many fellow travellers. The Raymond Creek Falls hike 🚶‍♀️‍➡️ is short, steep and well worth the effort.

Starting at the picnic area, the hike is 1km return 👟. To get another perspective from the halfway point, continue a further 300m to the bottom of the falls.
