In Tokyo, we stayed in Shinjuku and Ginza. Here’s why…

SHINJUKU • Easy arrival — the airport limousine bus from Haneda took us straight to our hotel. No navigating trains with luggage after a long flight.
• Perfect for exploring western Tokyo — a great base for places like Shibuya, Harajuku and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building.
• The Tokyo experience — neon, busy streets, tiny izakayas, shopping and that unmistakable Tokyo energy right outside our door.

GINZA • For the shopping — this is where we wanted to experience Tokyo’s more sophisticated, exclusive side, from luxury brands to beautiful department stores.
• Home to the biggest UNIQLO — yes, we had to visit the famous 12-storey Ginza store!
• Easy access to the east and north — Ginza made it simple to explore areas such as Asakusa, Ueno and Tsukiji, while still having an elegant, quieter base to return to.

Two neighbourhoods. Two completely different sides of Tokyo.

And honestly, that’s exactly why I’d recommend splitting your stay rather than staying in just one area.
