Before You Travel: Checklist

1. Check your passport expiry date

Many countries require at least six months' validity remaining on your passport.

2. Notify your bank

Let your bank know you're travelling overseas so foreign transactions are not flagged as suspicious and blocked.

3. Set card spending limits and transaction notifications

Daily limits and alerts can help you quickly detect and respond to fraud or unexpected spending.

4. Carry more than one payment method

Take multiple cards and keep them in different locations.
Having different card networks (for example, Visa and Mastercard) can also be useful.

5. Make physical copies of important documents

Keep photocopies of your passport, payment cards and other key documents in case your phone or digital copies become inaccessible due to theft or loss.

6. Arrange a Power of Attorney

Someone can make decisions or act on your behalf if issues arise while you're overseas.

7. Tell a trusted person where important documents are stored

They may need access to property titles, banking information or other important records while you're away.

8. Automate bill payments

Set recurring payments so bills continue to be paid on time and late fees are avoided.

9. Notify Centrelink/myGov if receiving government payments

Advise them of your travel plans, destination and dates because overseas travel may affect eligibility or payment arrangements.

Plan your mobile phone usage overseas

10. Either arrange international roaming or use a local eSIM/data plan to avoid unexpected charges.

TBH, I love falling down the rabbit hole of 💙-ing and saving travel ideas... no wonder my list keeps growing! 😅
