Here's a nice shot from two years ago I should have posted earlier. Remember 2020? Covid lockdowns? Bans on crowds gathering? Paula and her bloke were determined to get hitched anyway, so the Captain and Helga were happy to help. Here we all are outside Parramatta registry!

To get from the Megalong Valley vineyards back to civilisation one must cross the mighty Megalong Creek. It is fair to say that the Blue Mountains have had a lot of rain lately, and this day in July was no exception.

Luckily the Captain has been over this causeway many times, and was well aware that the water wasn't very deep.

What wasn't expected, however, was the super-efficient VW Kombi demister that converted splashy creek water into pure steam using engine heat, and then sprayed it all over the windscreen!

It's all just part of the fun on the Captain's weekend day tour - Mountains Views, Walks and Wineries - every Saturday and Sunday, 11am to 5pm. More info at:

OMG what's this? It's a post! It has to happen occasionally, right?

There's this wildly popular web thing out there called Accidentally Wes Anderson - they publish lovely pictures of built things, being really into architecture, symmetry and stuff - well who isn't? Their Insta account has a mere 1.6 million followers. They recently published this pic of Helga the Kombi at the Hydro Majestic Hotel, Medlow Bath. See the insta pages of Accidentally Wes Anderson and also nycars.

It all came about because one of my recent tour passengers has a liking for taking pictures of cars in front of buidlings. So we stopped by the Hydro for this photo op. Helga the Kombi is now more famous than ever.

Like everyone else, Helga the Kombi is bustin' to beat the gravel when Sydney's lockdown ends on 11 October! ... at least, it ends for those who have taken the requisite Covid precautions. UPDATE: UNTIL 1 NOVEMBER PEOPLE FROM REGIONAL NSW CANNOT COME TO THE BLUE MOUNTAINS, ONLY PEOPLE FROM GREATER SYDNEY.

For everyone else the leash comes off on 1 December. The Captain is Covid-ready and feeling invincible.

Blue Mountains weekend day tours 'Mountain Views, Walks and Wineries' will resume on Saturday 16 October and Sunday 17 October.

This tour is totally unique, and great whether you're staying in the Blue Mountains or wanting to escape Sydney for a day trip.

As you may have noticed, the Captain is not a prolific poster on FB. It's nice to have a 'presence', as they say.

But hey, I really should mention that the Captain's weekend-only 'Blue Mountains Walks and Megalong Wineries' day tours resumed some time ago - like about last July!

The main change in this Covid era - apart from masks and distancing of course - is that your fellow passengers on this tour will exclusively be Aussies. Back in the 'before time' you would be sharing a Kombi with an assortment of Americans, Germans, Brits, Kiwis, Philippinos, Swedes, Angolans etc etc - I kid you not, it was the full United Nations on wheels! It will be a great day when we can have them all back.

In the meantime, if you're staying in the Blue Mountains, you can always ditch the car and enjoy a big day out sightseeing, walking and wine tasting with the Captain, ably supported by Helga the Kombi (TM).

Calling for 3-5 volunteers to star in a video while attending a FREE Mountain Walks and Megalong Wineries tour by Kombi, SATURDAY 1 DECEMBER. Airbnb wants to make a promo vid of my tour, so you have to be willing to be filmed. It will be a compressed tour, from about 12 noon to 4pm. Meeting place to be arranged - maybe Katoomba or thereabouts. Just send me a message if you're interested. Things you need to know:
- no logos, gotta wear neutral clothes
- everyone must fill in an 'appearance release' form
- over 18s only.
