🚨 UPDATE: COUNCIL EASES MALENY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

AFTER pressure from Maleny’s business community over the impact of the Maple Street Streetscape works, Sunshine Coast Council has changed its traffic arrangements to allow local traffic to access Teak Street from the eastern end of Maple Street at all times.

The adjustment comes as local traders report major falls in trade, with some businesses saying turnover has plunged by up to 90 per cent since the latest road closure and detours began.

Brushturkey Nursery owner Spencer Shaw is among traders who have raised concerns about congestion, access and the impact the works are having on local businesses.

Council confirmed today (September 4) it had relaxed the Teak Street restriction, removing the previous time restriction for local traffic.

Be aware - starting Monday 31 August, 2026.

From 31 August, west-bound traffic on Maple Street will be temporarily diverted via Coral Street while crews build a new pedestrian crossing near the chemist as part of the Maple Street Streetscape Upgrade. 🚗
✅ Signed detour will be in place
✅ This detour is expected to be in place for about four weeks, subject to weather and site conditions
✅ Businesses remain open and accessible
✅ Parking remains available, with some temporary changes
✅ New and improved pedestrian facilities are on the way. 🚶
