We popped down to the Aviary Hotel for a quick Melbourne Cup Parma.

Overall disappointing. Chips were good, chicken fillet was too thin and the crumb was a bit too whole grain style for me. Salad added a point. 6.5/10 - Kh

Actually pretty good, juicy chicken good chips and salad, maybe too much herbs in the crumb? 8/10 - Ja

Loved the salad, the chips and of course the chicken. Sauce was great and the jalapeños added an extra kick that made every mouthful enjoyable. 9/10 LB

Salad was amazing but that's not what we're here for. The Parma had an overpowering smoked ham and Italian herbed crust that wasn't very crispy. Chips were good 6/10 KM

Sweet mama Jesus. Has the metropolitan chef moved to Portland and decided to put a smokey ham on the Parma? Yes. Yes he has. Was that a cornflake? Yes, yes it was. IP 9.5/10

I'd say it's probably the best Parma I've had in Melbourne. Minor fault, chips weren't great. Chicken was moist, crumbing was excellent, tasty sauce, cheese was good, as was the salad. Rest of the Parma crew...you suck. You missed a good one. JT 9.7/10

Been too long between visits the Portland has definitely perfected their Parma process - juicy chicken, great crumb, tangy sauce with a hint of chilli, smoky ham and good Ol classic cheesy cheese. Only let down is the not so fresh chips, 9/10

Metro Parma excellent as usual. Love the crumb, sauce and juicy breast. Melts in your mouth. Chips are fabulous. 9.4/10. Ec

Juicy as always, the chips were like pillows covered in crispy goodness, sauce was super tasty, the salad was meh. 9/10

We popped into the European after having been there for drinks many times but had never eaten here. Here are the results.

"The sauce was a little bit too tomatoey. The texture of the chicken was bizarre. I couldn't workout if it was a thigh schnitzel or a breast fillet... Overall it was juicy but bizarre. Crumbs lacked flavour but the chips were good. Overall a 7.5/10" Kristen.

Weird Parma. Had me confused. Presentation spot on. Crumbs soggy on inside. Weird after taste. I can taste lemon. Chips good. Salad good. 7/10 Luke

Chicken was pretty good but crumb was inconsistent density with soggy, crunch and chewy bits. Overall flavour was great, thick cut chips always a winner. 7/10

I liked this Parma - mine was crispy and delicious 8/10

Meh. Wet. Thighs. Chips and salad were the heroes of the dish. 5/10

Finally made it to the Portland Hotel. Here is what happened.

"The Parma came out on a chopping board which was vey hipster. Points for the chips and salad being separate as well so no soggy chips. The Napoli sauce was excellent and the chicken breast was delicious and moist. One thing I couldn't really taste was the Parmesan in the crumbs and the salad was rubbish. Too bad as the ham and overall Parma was excellent. 8.5/10" Kristen.

Juicy chicken, zesty Napoli sauce, super crunchy and tasty chips, the smoked ham and cheese were awesome. The salad was rubbish, the dressing tasted like praise or Kraft, it could have been a challenger. 8.5/10 DB

Very good Parma pushing top 3. Good tender chicken with awesome crumb, brilliant sauce, quality cheese. Chips were ok, salad was below average. Only sides let this one down. 8.75/10 JT

We travelled East tonight to the Royston hotel after hearing that they had a good Parma.

"I ordered some wedges before dinner and they were delicious so I was excited to see the Parma come out. It looked delicious, however the first bite of chicken revealed something very weird. The chicken was like a spam version of chicken. No texture, no moisture but also weirdly it tasted ok. I think they cooked the breast while it was still half frozen. A shame as the coleslaw, chips sauce and cheese were excellent. 7/10" Kristen.

The sauce was yum and the cheese super stringy and golden, the crumb was crunchy and tasty. But the chicken was odd, hard and not moist at all. Maybe it would be better on their Parma night. 6/10 DB

Actually really tasty - good cheese and sauce and the smoky ham, respect! Chunky chip option and coleslaw a winner but that breast was not fresh juicy or succulent - was it frozen? 7/10 jez

Dropped into a local for Parma night and boy it didn't disappoint.

Juicy chicken and great chips along with a beer for just $15. Epic win.
