Jacinta di Mase Management Literary Agency committed to quality books that engage, entertain, and inspire. Representing writers and illustrators across a diverse range of genres

With more than 20 years experience in the book industry, Jacinta di Mase started her own agency in 2004. The agency is committed to the creation of quality books that engage, entertain, and inspire. Agency staff have a good track record for spotting works with commercial potential and working with creators to maximise that potential. We represent writers and illustrators across a diverse range of

genre including picture books, young adult fiction, and fiction and non-fiction titles for the adult trade market. Jacinta di Mase has a background in book selling and publishing, and worked for ten years in two of Australia’s premier literary agencies: Australian Literary Management (ALM), and Jenny Darling & Associates. She graduated with distinction from the RMIT Graduate Diploma of Editing & Publishing (1996). Jacinta is the President of the Australian Literary Agents’ Association (ALAA), an Australia Council for the Arts Visiting International Publishers Program selection committee member, and the ALAA representative for the Book Council of Australia (BCA)

Now, more than ever a writer needs an agent. Publishing is in a constant state of flux with new technologies presenting radical changes to old publishing models. Editors leave publishing houses; Publishing houses are sold, or taken over, or sometimes abandoned. A writer needs a buffer to protect them during times of change. An agent knows the publishing industry and can offer this protection. An agent is in the industry at the ground level; an agent is there for the writer.

Without permission, or payment, artificial intelligence (AI) has stolen the published words of thousands of Australian writers, and it seems that they have little power to stop it.

Can literature, and creativity, survive this technological upheaval?

At this year’s Sydney Writers’ Festival, Anna Funder, author of Wifedom, expressed why the predictive text machine of AI are the biggest threat to original works right now.

UTS has announced a “pause” on enrolments in 100 courses. Vacating these critically important areas diminishes not only the brand of UTS but the state it was designed to benefit.

Jane Caro gets it 👏

“I feel desperately sorry for Byron Bay Writers Festival cancelled due to catastrophic rain, not so much for Bendigo Writers Festival, being cancelled on due to catastrophic fear & loathing about the privileged and the powerful. Writers are meant to make the powerful uncomfortable. It is literally our job.”

UQP has acquired a raucous new middle-grade novel by debut First Nations author Allison Rocca. 'Joey and the Junjardy' is a fun and action-packed story about eleven-year-old larrikin Joey who starts at a new school on Country and gains the attention of a Junjardy – a small hairy mischief-maker. The book will be illustrated by Yawuru comic artist Brenton E. McKenna, and publish in July 2026.
