Sri Lanka was named the world’s most family-friendly country for 2025 by luxury travel magazine Condé Nast Traveller, UK. The country ranked ahead of top destinations like Sweden, Norway, and New Zealand.
According to an article by Olivia Morelli, published on 12 March, Sri Lanka's welcoming culture, outdoor activities, and family-friendly hotels contributed to its top spot. The article describes Sri Lanka as an ideal destination for multi-generational trips, with its rich wildlife, stunning beaches, historical sites, and excellent food and shopping.
The country also scored highly for its education system (0.7 out of 1.0) and its low childcare costs, which amount to just USD 354.60 per year—significantly lower than the USD 16,439.40 per year in the US, which ranked 10th.
The rankings were based on various factors, including the quality of education, childcare affordability, and overall living conditions. Key data points included the average years of schooling for adults, expected years of schooling for children, and the cost of childcare. These elements helped determine Sri Lanka's top position as the most family-friendly destination.
