The Dandenong Ranges in late June are worth out of the house for.

The Olinda Circuit covers 14km through the Dandenong Ranges National Park — towering Mountain Ash, fern gullies and winding trail through one of Melbourne's most accessible stretches of rainforest. Grade 3, so there's enough elevation to feel it without being a overly taxing. Done by around 2pm.

Women-only, small group, guided by women. Snacks and lunch included.

Sunday 28 June. $89. Meet at Olinda Playspace Car Park at 9am.

Details and bookings at the link.

"Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished." Laozi

Cooler days invite us to slow down.

To walk a little more mindfully. To notice more. To breathe a little deeper.

Hiking in winter isn’t about rushing or pushing harder.

Like life, it’s about enjoying the journey at your own pace.

Slow down with us on the trail this season.

The Cathedral Ranges Northern Circuit is one of the hardest day hikes on the Wanderlust Trails calendar.

The 15km circuit climbs out of Cooks Mill Campground and onto a jagged sedimentary ridgeline that traverses Little Cathedral Peak, Cathedral Peak and the Jawbones, sustained rock scrambling on exposed terrain with sections where progress slows to 1.5km an hour. The views across the Acheron Valley and out toward the Victorian Alps are the reward for keeping focus on the way up and the way down.

This is a Grade 5 hike suited to women who already have solid trail experience and are comfortable on uneven, exposed ground. Saturday 20 June 2026, $89.

What Happens on the Descent?

The best conversations on a hike happen on the descent.

The hard work is done, the view has been seen, and there's nothing left to do but walk down and talk. Women who were strangers at the trailhead are usually quite comfortable with each other by the time they're back at the cars.

We don't engineer that. The trail does it.

Come and see for yourself.

Mt Macedon in June is a different hike to Mt Macedon in summer. Cooler air, quieter trails, mist through the forest on the way up.

The route is 16km through the Macedon Ranges - single track and shaded forest paths past Camels Hump and Sanatorium Lake, finishing at the Memorial Cross with views across the ranges. There's a rocky descent on the way back down. Grade 4, so the climbs are steady and the terrain keeps you working.

Women-only, small group, guided by women who know the trail. Snacks and lunch included.

Saturday 13 June. $89. Meet at McGregor Picnic Ground, Mt Macedon at 9am.

Details and bookings at the link.

We've got four women's hikes on the calendar for June - something across the full range of grades and distances.

Sat 6 June — Darebin Parklands Urban Hike (FREE) 7km through native bushland and wetlands along the Darebin Creek Trail in Alphington. Grade 2, done by 11:30am. This one's free and a good introduction to hiking with us if you've been curious.

Sat 13 June — Mt Macedon Day Hike 16km through forest and past Camels Hump, Sanatorium Lake and the Memorial Cross, finishing at one of the highest lookout points in the Macedon Ranges. Grade 4. $89.

Sat 20 June — Cathedral Ranges Day Hike 15km on the Northern Circuit — steep ascents, rocky ridgelines and narrow scrambles through one of Victoria's most demanding circuits. Grade 5. $89.

Sun 28 June — Olinda Circuit Day Hike 14km through Mountain Ash forest and fern gullies in the Dandenong Ranges National Park. Grade 3. $89.

All paid hikes include snacks and lunch, small group, and women's guides.

We're running a three-day hiking retreat on the Mornington Peninsula in July.

Saturday is the main day, 16km through Greens Bush and along the Cape Schanck clifftops above Bass Strait, lunch at T'Gallant winery, then Peninsula Hot Springs in the evening with a private pod. Sunday follows the old Quarantine Station trail to Point Nepean, past military tunnels and Bass Strait lookouts, with seals and dolphins a genuine possibility offshore.

Two nights at Morning Sun Vineyard in Red Hill. $1,350 per person twin share. 24–26 July 2026.

There's usually a moment before someone books their first hike where they almost don't.

Too busy. Not fit enough. Don't know anyone. Will think about it next month.

Most of the women who've hiked with us had that exact moment. Most of them are glad they booked anyway.

The calendar is open. The next hike might be the one.

Our next free women's community hike is in Darebin Parklands — and if you haven't walked this one yet, it's worth knowing about.

The route follows the Darebin Creek Trail through native bushland, wetlands and open parkland in Alphington. 7km, Grade 2, finished by 11:30am. It's an easy walk, but the birdlife and creek-side sections make it feel further from the city than it actually is.

These community hikes are free, women-only, and a good way to get a feel for what Wanderlust Trails is about before committing to a paid hike. No experience needed.

Saturday 6 June. Meet at 9am, Darebin Parklands, Alphington.

Grab your spot at the link — numbers are kept small.

Hiking counts as exercise. That's true.

But women who come back for their second and third hike are rarely coming back for the exercise. They're coming back for how the day feels different to every other day of the week. For the group of women they've started to recognise. For the part where they're moving through a place they wouldn't have found on their own.
