Cape York (The Tip of Australia)
What an epic trip this was! We stayed at Punsand Bay and went for a drive to the tip. Leaving early because of the heat and tide was out so we walked via the beach and back over the top to return. On the way there we passed through thick jungle terrain, wild brumbies with a very curious foal that came for a hello and little creek crossings. The walk along the beach was very slippery with some hilarious falls and acrobatics.. make sure the tide is right out so you can see any crocodiles 🐊🐊🐊 Once we got all the photos done we headed back up over the top and back to the car. The views up the top are amazing! Make sure you have hats and water because it is a trek! I like to think of the Tip as being the most Northern Point of Australia. Our plan is to visit all the points! With me it is about the geographical aspect and not about who lived there first.. everyone has a view but that is mine. If you get here, enjoy the hell out of it as it is a real bucket list goal with many hurdles on the way! If you have done it, feel free to share your pics 👍🏻😁

Lakefield NP, Cape York (rinyirru)

On our way up to the tip of Australia, we camped at Lakefield NP at one of the Hann River Crossing Campsites and it was fantastic! Heaps of birdlife, resident crocodile, fun river crossings, huge termite mounds and the most beautiful lakes! You can make this a camping trip on its own without going any further if you want. There is heaps to see and do!
Its a long way up from Melbourne but 100% worth the trip!

Murrindindi (tanglefoot Trails) Wirrawilla Walk

There is so much to do at Murrindindi! Fantastic waterfalls, beautiful scenery, huge trees, fun 4wdriving and this walk! Only a short 15 min walk unless you keep stopping and taking photos like me and just breathing in the pure fresh air! Toilet on site and plenty of parking.

We are currently on a trip from melbourne to the northern most tip of Australia! I will share some of the places we visit up and back 👍🏻😁 firstly we have the Lions Den Hotel hotel near Cooktown northern Queensland. Great pub, good food and a flower that only flowers for 24 hours before dying. Its called the Cannonball tree.

MONTSALVAT
Arts Community. Where the life of art is lived.

It has always been in my mind to visit Montsalvat in Eltham after one of my work colleagues got married there many years ago.

It did not disappoint. We were welcomed at the entrance where we were given a little information by a lovely lady. Then we headed through the cafe (which had very yum nibbles or a lunch available), we paid, got a map and in we went.
I am not a big art lover, i was there more for the site itself. If you are into art in many forms, there are over 2000 pieces on display throughout.
Montsalvat was established in 1934 by Justus Jorgensen and his friends. It was built from items all over Australia and the Eltham Hills. You can read the fascinating history in the booklet you get.
We walked all around and through all the buildings and it really is a beautiful place! The buildings are inspired by old French villages and the architecture transports you to another time.
I have added some more info at the end of the photos.
Hope you enjoy!

Stringybark Creek Reserve
The Kelly Tree

Located in the Toombullup State Forest between Tolmie and Whitfield.

In 1878 the Kelly gang members led by the infamous Ned Kelly became Australias most wanted bushranges for killing 3 police officers.
The comprehensive signage tells the story of the gunfight between the Kelly gang and the Mansfield police. The tree marks the spot and imbedded in the tree is a replica piece of Ned Kellys Armour.
It is a beautiful area and the story of it is historic.

There are toilets, picnic tables and bbq facilities available here and a good walking track. Also a short walk through to a terrific little campsite with facilities. Stringybark Creek Campground.

POWERS LOOKOUT
Whitfield, Past Mansfield.

Harry Powers was a gentlemanly bushranger from the 1860s that used this area as his hideout. You can see why as it has some great hiding spots if your game! High above the King Valley this spot gave him a great vantage spot and kept him safe for 8 years while on the run. Eventually he was caught and arrested here.

While camping at the Tolmie Recreation Reserve, about 20 minutes from Mansfield, we headed out for a drive to Powers Lookout which is located off the Mansfield Whitford Rd. It is sign posted. You drive in around 3 kms on the dirt rd where you will arrive at the first easily accessible viewing platform. Then you can head off down the steps to the big viewing platform. This is all steps and at times steep and rocky. My knees took a beating on this one but it was worth it! The view is spectacular!
There is also a 20 minute return walk to Harrys waterhole where he took his horses for a drink. More caves can be found here.
There is an information board here to get all the details. Take water and good hiking shoes and take any rubbish back out with you!

We left here and headed to the Kelly Tree where Ned Kelly killed 4 policemen. Thats coming up next! 😃

We went to the MFSR bush festival in Corryong this weekend and stayed at the Discovery Parks Lake Hume instead of in town. It was an hours drive back and forward but we basically only did the one day for the reenactment so not bad at all. The festival was great as it always is. Heaps to see and do and horses everywhere with events happening constantly! The park we stayed was close to Wodonga, beautiful, with fabulous pool and spa and amazing sunrises and sunsets! Lake Hume was very low but made awesome landscapes and long walks. 😁 A really good place to get away any time. They had good bbq areas and a movie night as well.
