👹 The night before Bali goes silent, it roars.

Ogoh Ogoh is one of the island’s most extraordinary traditions: giant demon-like effigies, music, fire, chaos, community and meaning. Then comes Nyepi, a full day of silence, reflection and stillness.
We’re here in Bali witnessing it all, and being reminded that travel is at its best when it helps us understand the deeper rhythms of a place.

Have you seen Ogoh Ogoh in person?

From the very first moment at Tandjung Sari, you feel it: the cool towel, Kadek’s warm Balinese smile, and the deep, resonant welcome of the gong. Not a check-in so much as an arrival into another rhythm.

Set right on the beachfront in Sanur, Tandjung Sari is one of Bali’s great originals; born in the early 1960s when this stretch of coast was still quiet, with fishermen’s boats and coral harvesters out on the reef. What began as a private retreat for founder Wija Wawo-Runtu and his family evolved into one of Asia’s seminal boutique hotels, still run by the same family today.

What makes it unforgettable is not just the location; though waking up on this gentle, sea-breezed edge of Sanur is its own kind of magic; but the way the hotel has always blended intimacy, craft and culture. The bungalows were designed from Wija’s sketches, built by local craftspeople, and the property has long supported Balinese artistic traditions through the Tandjung Sari Foundation.

This is the kind of place Rasa Voya loves: storied, soulful, quietly glamorous, and deeply connected to where it stands.

Welcome to Sanur.

Welcome to Tandjung Sari.

🌴 BALI MONTH BY MONTH: Your Ultimate Guide to Paradise 🌴

Ever wondered when the perfect time to visit Bali is? Truth is, this magical island has something special to offer every single month. Here's your insider guide to experiencing the Island of the Gods year-round:

JANUARY ☔
Wet season is in full swing, but don't let that deter you. Mornings are often gloriously sunny, with afternoon showers that cool everything down. Fewer tourists mean better prices and quieter beaches. The rice terraces are impossibly green and lush.

FEBRUARY 🎊
Still rainy but warming up. This is when you'll catch Chinese New Year celebrations (dates vary) – think dragon dances in Seminyak and special temple ceremonies. Hotels offer fantastic deals, and you'll have iconic spots nearly to yourself.

MARCH 🌸
The tail end of the wet season brings the island to life. Nyepi (Balinese New Year) usually falls in March – experience the entire island going silent for 24 hours. No flights, no lights, just stillness. It's absolutely extraordinary. The day before, witness the spectacular Ogoh-Ogoh parades with massive demon effigies.

APRIL ☀️
Transition month! The rains are easing off, and sunny days are becoming more frequent. Crowds are still manageable before the school holidays hit. Ideal for surfing, diving, and temple hopping. You might catch the occasional shower, but the humidity drops and everything feels fresh.

MAY 🌊
Dry season begins in earnest! Clear skies, calm seas on the east coast, pumping waves on the west. Vesak (Buddha's birthday) brings beautiful processions to Bali's Buddhist temples. Still relatively quiet – one of the best-kept secrets for savvy travellers.

JUNE 🏖️
Peak season begins as European summer holidays start. The weather is brilliant, but expect bigger crowds at popular spots. Great for snorkelling and diving with excellent visibility. Mid-year often brings cultural festivals, including the colourful Sanur Village Festival (dates vary each year), featuring kite-flying competitions and performances.

JULY 🎭
High season is here. Glorious weather, but definitely busier and pricier. Book accommodation well ahead. The Bali Arts Festival typically runs for several weeks around mid-year in Denpasar – incredible traditional dance, music, and crafts. Perfect for families and culture vultures.

AUGUST 🪁
The busiest month. Indonesian Independence Day (17th) brings patriotic celebrations and street decorations throughout the island. The weather remains perfect. Kite Festival season – watch giant traditional kites soar above the beaches. Book everything months in advance.

SEPTEMBER 🌅
Sweet spot! Crowds thin out as students return to school, but the weather stays favourable. Perfect for couples and those seeking a more peaceful Bali experience. Surf's up on the Bukit Peninsula. Pricing becomes more reasonable again.

OCTOBER 🎨
Sweet spot! Crowds thin out as kids go back to school. Transition month weather – still mostly dry, but the wet season is approaching. Perfect for couples and those seeking a more peaceful Bali experience. Surf's up on the Bukit Peninsula. The Ubud Writers & Readers Festival attracts literary minds from around the world. Fantastic time for yoga retreats and wellness escapes.

NOVEMBER 🌧️
Wet season returns, but it's far from gloomy. Brief tropical downpours refresh the island. You might catch Galungan and Kuningan – Bali's most important festivals, when ancestral spirits are believed to visit (they occur every 210 days, so not every November). When they do happen, every village is adorned with penjor (bamboo poles), and ceremonies happen everywhere. Magical and deeply spiritual.

DECEMBER 🎄
A mix of rain and sunshine. Gets busier again from mid-month as Christmas and New Year travellers arrive. New Year's Eve beach clubs and parties are legendary. Book early for Christmas week. Despite the rain, there's a festive energy across the island.

THE VERDICT?
There's no bad time to visit Bali. The dry season (roughly May–October) offers guaranteed sunshine and ideal beach days, with April and October as pleasant transition months. Wet season (November–April) offers lush landscapes, better prices, and authentic cultural experiences without the masses – though do expect proper tropical downpours, particularly December through February.

The real secret? Any month you arrive is the right month. This island works its magic year-round. ✨

What's your favourite time to visit?

Beyond the Postcard: A 12-Day Journey Through Bali's Hidden Heart.

This is not the Bali you think you know. 12 days, 11 nights | Limited to 6 guests
Our journey begins where Bali's story first captivated the world—at Tandjung Sari in Sanur, the legendary beachside retreat that introduced discerning travellers to the island's magic in the 1960s. Here, amid frangipani-scented gardens and traditional thatched pavilions, you'll understand why Bali became synonymous with paradise.

But we're just beginning.

From the coast, we turn inland, following ancient paths into Bali's verdant interior. In Tabanan Regency, where emerald rice terraces cascade down volcanic slopes and village life moves to rhythms unchanged for generations, you'll discover what happens when you slow down enough to see truly. The air is different here—cooler, sweeter, alive with the sound of water flowing through subak irrigation channels that have sustained communities for a thousand years.

We climb higher into the mountains to mist-shrouded Munduk, where waterfalls hide in jungle folds and morning coffee tastes like the volcanic soil it grew from. Then onward to Kintamani's dramatic caldera, where you'll witness landscapes that remind you why mountains have always been considered sacred.

Our path leads east through the terraced valleys of Sidemen—a place so timelessly beautiful it feels like stepping into a living painting—before descending to Bali's wild black sand coast, where the island reveals an entirely different face. Here, traditional fishing villages meet dramatic volcanic beaches, and the ocean carries a distinct energy entirely.

We conclude in Ubud, but not the Ubud of crowded markets and tour buses. By now, you'll see this cultural heartland through different eyes—knowing which paths to take, which sounds to listen for, which moments to pause and simply be.

Throughout these twelve days, you'll stay in carefully selected properties that honour Bali's authentic spirit while offering genuine comfort. You'll witness rituals that tourists never see. You'll taste flavours you didn't know existed. And perhaps most importantly, you'll have time—time to wander, to wonder, to let this extraordinary island reveal itself at its own pace.

This is Bali as it was meant to be experienced: slowly, deeply, and with all your senses awakened.
