Camponotus suffusus bendigensis...
This beautiful species is the red legged sub species of the Camponotus suffusus!!
The Giant Gold Tailed Sugar Ant
They aren't as widespread as her black legged cousin, which makes the discovery of them within 30mins of time very exciting.
Hopefully, we can catch their flights and acquire a queen for our collection.

Myrmecia varians...
Our little myrmecia varians queen recently had her first worker eclose. She also has a number of small larvae growing well.
This beautiful small species is part of the pilosula group and is just as aggressive!!

Podomyrma gratiosa... muscleman tree ant.
This awesome species never skips leg day!!!
This beautiful Queen was caught by a friend, and we were sceptical if she would lay as she kept her wings for quite a while.
She now has a big pile of brood, and we are hoping she raises a nice little colony. They are such a beautiful species. We have a number of design ideas specific to these girls.

Went for a walk and found a couple of young myrmecia pilosula colonies in a local park that I had not seen before... then old mate Attenbro turned up... im sorry in advance!!

Iridomyrmex purpureus colony.
This meat ant colony is slowly progressing, and looking at the larvae and pupae we expect a bit of a population boost very soon.
We might need to add another nest soon.

Betty, the myrmecia pyriformis, and colony is progressing nicely.
She is well and truly settled in her large modular nest with two vertical liquid feeders/hydration and the XL outworld base with tub.
She has had a couple of cocoons spin recently, and a couple of generations of larvae as well.
This colony, along with a few others, will be on display at the National Entomology Expo in October checkout National Entomology Insect Expo for more info.
Camponotus suffusus, the Giant Gold Tailed Sugar Ant.
Such a cool looking species, the video doesn't do them justice.
This is Cleo and her colony, growing bugger and stronger each day. At last count, there were 16 workers, a nice pile of brood including a few large larvae.
These girls are testing out one of the early wooden nests that was made in partnership with @cnwoodworking
Myrmecia brevinoda
We are really excited at the development of our beautiful myrmecia brevinoda. The largest of the bullant species!!
She came to us freshly caught and has since laid five eggs, and at least two have hatched into larvae.
This girl is the largest queen we have in our collection, not by much as we have a couple of good-sized pyriformis. She is on the smaller side for a brevinoda but still so big!!

The nigrocincta colony has finally moved into the nest!!
We moved their tube into the outworld of their new nest setup about a week ago. They moved all the cocoons out and back in a number of times before insisting on staying in the test tube.
Fast forward a week, and they moved into the nest.
They are looking pretty happy and settled in. The cocoons are in one pile, the eggs and smaller larvae in another pile close to the vertical liquid feeder, which supplies water & humidity for the ants and nest.
Podomyrma gratiosa... the Muscleman Tree Ant.
One species that has eluded us, then we find them at one of our local parks. Such a cool species.
By far the largest podomyrma we have found so far.
We would love to find a queen (next season) as we have some awesome ideas for a display nest and outworld setup.
An arboreal species that is found foraging and hunting on trees.
We thought the local population of mull ants had finished flying... well, today there were some more getting on with things.
This one, a myrmecia nigriceps queen alate, followed me from the nest and then up this tree to commence her nuptial flight. Hopefully, she was successful in mating and has started her journey to raise her own colony.

Iridomyrmex sanguineus...
Northern meat ant.
A recent addition to our collection thanks to @theantlab.com.au
This little colony won't be little for long.
We have special plans for them, so looking forward to seeing them grow.
-------------------------------
The Northern meat ant is almost identical to our more common I.purpureus, other then the colouration of these ladies being more pronounced and vibrant!
Meat ants are a versatile species.
Found in the Northern half of mainland Australia these ants establish huge mounded colonies made of sand and gravel often creating multiple satellite nests with dedicated paths/highways above ground.
Colonies can vary in size from 10-300 thousand workers! In captivity they can be smaller if given reduced amounts of protein for their brood.
