We have been a little quiet on here and a little slow getting back to people lately as we have been settling in with our newest little family member. He gave us a little scare but arrived safely by C Section. So I have been a little busy helping my wife with recovery, the extra jobs around house and our boys. For anyone we haven’t gotten back to as yet I’m sorry but we are back and at it now. In Cowra this week building 2 side by side 93,000L underground concrete tanks. Inside mould done and floor and wall mesh tied in on the 1st tank now starting on the outside mould. Digger on site getting the pad ready for the 2nd tank.

Putting a face to Orana Concrete Tanks and a little about our business.
I’m Jamie Curry, 35 years old. I Have owned the business since 2014. Before owning the business I worked with the company for 3 years. We are Located in a small country town called Mudgee in the Central West NSW. I have a little growing family a wife, 18month old son and another little one on the way due early May.
Like many small businesses we know the hard struggles at times and even more so since the pandemic. Worrying about bringing in the money for your family to survive and keeping the business up and running. So as a small business owner we love to support other locally owned businesses around town buying our materials needed to build our tanks around NSW. We will travel near and far to build onsite quality concrete water tanks.
Our tanks range from 100mm-150mm in thickness walls, floor and roof with a wide rage of sizes from 45,000L to 120,000L. With the option of either corrugated iron roof or concrete roof. Tanks can either be built on top of the ground, partially buried or completely buried so soil can be put back over the top and have a nice grassed area or build a shed, verandah or something practical over the top without you even know it’s there.

Another reason why a Concrete Tank is better than a Plastic Tank

Heat and sunlight turn water off. It promotes algae and bacteria growth which can cause health concerns in many ways. The water stored in a plastic tank will be affected by both sunlight and heat, also with the plumbing connection of an above ground plastic tank. As the pipes are also in the sun with water left lying in the down pipes, sometime for weeks if there is no rainfall, this allows algae to grow the quickest.
The water in an Inground Concrete Tanks is kept cool and dark below ground and in our case in 125mm thick concrete walls, so no algae will grow. Also the downpipes go straight down into the ground and all the plumbing is concealed underground.

We repaired an old tank over the weekend that was leaking a substantial amount of water each day due to some unnoticeable cracks as the tank is underground
The owner had organised for the tank to be cleaned out before we got there which was very helpful and save us a lot of time

First we patched up the cracks from the inside which is the only way to fix a leaking tank as it’s the positive side and with the amount of pressure in a tank if you patch the outside 95% of the time the patch will let go

After the patch work had set and gone hard we then painted 2 Coates of water proofing sealer over the whole inside of the tank to make sure it won’t leak in the future

A couple of fresh early mornings in Scone last week to complete 2 of the biggest tanks we do (120,000L). These 2 underground tanks will be back filled and covered with topsoil and turf. They will still have access inside the tank if need be with the man hole being at ground level. There were a few extra long days in there to get them set up, poured and taken down before the rain over the weekend but we got there in the end thankfully. Another successful job done ✔️
