We're in Yekke season, May to June, and it's a beautiful moment in the park's calendar. The wet season rains have cleared, the air is cooler, and the landscape is lush and green after all that water. The Bininj/Mungguy people know this as the time of "big mob dragonflies," and if you've ever done a Yellow Water Cruise during Yekke, you'll know exactly what they mean.

Whether you're after a guided river cruise, a cultural centre visit, rock art walks, fishing, scenic flights, or simply the experience of waking up in one of the world's great wilderness areas, Yekke season awaits you.

Head to the East Alligator River and you'll find one of Kakadu's most spectacular natural events unfolding from the safety of three dedicated viewing platforms at Cahills Crossing. Saltwater crocodiles - the world's largest reptiles - gather here in remarkable numbers to feed as the tide pushes fish over the causeway. Rangers have counted over 50 crocs in a single 400m stretch.

→ Check tide times before you go for the best viewing
