Before COVID, tourism to Taiwan was driven by groups from China, which peaked at around 4 million arrivals a year.

That changed under President Tsai Ing-wen, whose government strengthened ties with the West, prompting Beijing to tighten visa approvals for travel to Taiwan.

As Chinese visitor numbers fell sharply, in their place came independent tourists from more than 60 countries whose travel to Taiwan was made easier, including Australia.

St Peters Lutheran College Symphonic Winds
December 2025

In December 2025, My Taiwan Escape proudly welcomed St Peters Lutheran College Symphonic Winds for a 3-day Taipei transit experience — and for over 45 students, it was their very first time in Taiwan!

From the Liberty Square and iconic Taipei 101 to a behind-the-scenes visit at the National Theatre, plus a hands-on pineapple cake workshop 🍍- students didn’t just see Taiwan, they tasted and experienced it.

This marks our 6th Australian school group we’ve supported in Taiwan safe, vibrant, culturally rich — Taiwan is becoming a top choice for school travel.

What a climb! There are many ways to experience Taipei 101—but this is definitely not the way our tour chose to go up.

What a climb! 😮

American rock climber Alex Honnold has successfully scaled Taiwan's Taipei 101 skyscraper without any ropes or protective equipment, with the event broadcast live on Netflix.

Honnold, who rose to notoriety for his free solo ascent up Yosemite National Park's El Capitan, took just 90 minutes to climb the 101 floors of the skyscraper, totalling 508 metres.

We cannot wait to share our recent Australian Travel Agents Famil to Taiwan! This famil brought together representatives, travel advisors, and agents for an incredible five-day journey across the northern cities of Taiwan. The highlights include visiting Taipei 101, the tallest building in Taiwan; Jiufen Old Street, which boasts rich history, atmospheric lanes, teahouses, and breathtaking views; Shifen Waterfall, also known as Taiwan's Niagara Falls; launching a lantern into the sky at Shifen; and Yilan, the hometown of famous Sanxin scallions, hot springs, and the Kavalan Whisky Distillery. Last but not least, we indulged in the famous local Taiwanese cuisines!
