We're still pinching ourselves, but over the weekend we were announced as the winner of the Blak Tourism Business of the Year at the 2026 Northern Territory Indigenous Business Network Blak Business Awards!

To receive this recognition and in our first year being fully operational is an incredible achievement for our business and community. We are so proud to have been nominated and recognised as a finalist alongside Standley Chasm - Angkerle and Aboriginal Bush Traders, not to mention winning the award! 🏆

From all of the Buymarr family, and on behalf of the Wangurri Djerrkura Aboriginal Corporation, a huge thank you to NTIBN for your support and this celebration of Blak Businesses and Blak excellence. We're honoured to be a finalist for the Blak Tourism Business of the Year at this year's 2026 NTIBN Blak Business Awards.

Through our tourism business, we offer visitors the opportunity to connect with Yolŋu land, people and culture in a remote homeland in East Arnhem. We're so proud of what we have created and to share our country with visitors, while supporting meaningful employment and opportunities to live and work on our traditional lands.

Whether we win or not, it's an honour for this acknowledgement and recognition of what we are working to achieve for our community 💚

Thanks to NTIBN and congratulations to all the finalists, and Aboriginal Bush Traders and Standley Chasm Angkerle who are also up for tourism business of the year. See you at the awards in Darwin tomorrow night!

Last week was a significant milestone for our community and Corporation, with the first charter landing at Buymarr in decades ✈️

We started this journey to rebuild our community and having an operational airstrip is critical to improved access to Buymarr and family living on Country year-round.

Buymarr families and visitors can now travel to our homeland via air. Just a short 20 minute scenic flight from Gove Airport, the views and spectacular landscapes of Yolŋu Country are something special!

A huge thank you to The Storyteller Chef and our family for an incredible weekend at Buymarr.

The Buymarr family were incredibly proud to host our first Dinner Under The Stars event at our home. There's nothing better than fresh local foods caught on Country, combining traditional and modern cooking methods. The family did a great job gathering food from the land, river and sea, and sharing Yolŋu knowledge and culture.

Thanks to everyone who travelled to Buymarr and attended this event. We look forward to hosting more unique experiences like this in the future!

Meet Mitjangba Djerrkura. Senior Traditional Owner of Buymarr, master weaver, elder and knowledge holder.

Mitjangba is the matriarch of the Buymarr family and invites visitors to connect with Wangurri land, people and culture at her homeland and Country. On a cultural experience at Buymarr, Mitjangba leads our traditional smoking ceremony and welcome for visitors.

We're proud to be guided by Mitjangba's vision for our homeland and working to create opportunities for Buymarr families to live and work on their traditional lands 💚
