The newest O fountain is making a splash 💧💦 along the Gympie Terrace waterfront in Noosaville

It’s another unique and striking addition to our O fountain lineup that aims to encourage tap water usage and sustainable behaviours. 🚰

It’s another fountain that encourages connection to country and culture through thoughtful art that draws you in !

Oh this makes me happy 😊. We live in such a visually oriented society nowadays, the tones, textures and patterns are sure to create interest. Plus it adds energy and vibrancy to the area!

The art was created by Indigenous artist Lyndon Davis. He is an internationally acclaimed artist, educator and cultural performer.

The striking blue artwork on the water refill station represents the shell middens along the foreshore of Noosa River.

“Middens were formed from the discarded shells from the seafood eaten by the Kabi Kabi and were common along the banks of the Noosa River and Weyba, Doonella, Cooroibah and Cootharaba Lakes,” Mr Davis said.
“This artwork represents these large accumulations of shell material found in this area.”

I love that this art reflects the surrounding natural landscape in a way that helps educate visitors about their local area.

The installation of this O fountain has been a project between Unitywater, Noosa Shire Council and Tourism Noosa to encourage locals and visitors to ditch single-use plastic bottles and fill up reusable water bottles with tap water.

Artist profile - Jessica Jane Illustration

Jessica Jane is a local exhibiting artist, illustrator and designer. Her work can be described as whimsical and feminine with interests in nature, animals and costume. Her detailed ink drawings are inspired by nature and travelling, often visualising flora and fauna she has referenced with self captured photography when exploring.

LEADING YOUTHS // The youth are our future and are actively pressing for change and reinvention. I am so delighted to unveil our latest fountain, painted by a talented young artist, Jessica de Jonge. This was the climax of the WaterConnecting program of LF2018 European Capital of Culture by Gemeente Leeuwarden.

aims to introduce everyone to the beauty and diversity of water in Frisia and challenges us to think about our future. As part of this, Leeuwarden wanted to provide an opportunity for a young artist to express their view of the theme ‘Legacy’.

Jessica is still a student. She was supported and guided by professional painter Jetse de Boer and established artist Gerard Groenewoud. She decided to celebrate Spring and Renewal in her artwork in the hope that we reconsider our behaviours toward the planet.

Jessica noted that “plastic pollution is all around us. We throw everything away without thinking of the next generation.” Her artwork reflects cleanliness, with the intention to promote people to act in a sustainable manner.

I love that our latest O fountain was created from the vision and the voice of a young artist. Thank you Jessica!
