It was so lovely to get back into the park with this great couple. There were many signs of the recent fires but also signs of recovery. It was a perfect day and we were glad to be able to once again show off this beautiful place.

Deep Creek has always been a place of powerful beauty, and like many in our community, we are navigating a challenging time following recent bushfires and earlier impacts to coastal visitation.

Rather than step away, we have chosen to stay present and create meaningful Bushfire Recovery Tours that safely reconnect visitors with the Fleurieu Peninsula while supporting local recovery, conservation awareness and community resilience.

You can now join us for:

• A Deep Creek Recovery Coastal Experience at Rapid Bay with native-inspired tasting and beach picnic
• A Half Day Coastal Discovery including duck boat wildlife exploration, transfers from Lady Bay and a hosted Rapid Bay picnic

These experiences are gentle, thoughtful and grounded in place, created to keep our region connected to visitors until Deep Creek National Park reopens.

It is with heavy hearts we watch our beautiful Deep Creek burning. We will unfortunately not be able to offer our tours in the park for the coming months but we do plan to continue operating and as of next week will be offering some great alternative tours in our beautiful region. We plan to bring you opportunities to learn more about the recovery efforts and the impacts for the park and wildlife. We would like to honour and pay tribute to our amazing community and all the volunteers who are helping to contain this fire. If you have a current booking either through Coast is Calling or directly we will be contacting you over the next week to take you through our new offerings. We pray that our volunteers remain safe and that no further structures or homes are lost.

Incident Update - Deep Creek Fire

The Deep Creek Fire in the Fleurieu Peninsula of South Australia has now burnt 4,500 hectares and has a perimeter of 52 kilometers.

More than 200 firefighters from CFS, Department for Environment and Water (DEW), Forestry SA, Farm Fire Units, New South Wales Rural Fire Service and Victorian Country Fire Authority continue to work on the fire today. An Incident Management Team continues to support fire fighting operations which includes personnel from SA, NSW and Queensland Fire Department.

Crews are continuing back burning supported by heavy machinery, ground crews and aircraft to consolidate and strengthen containment lines along Black Bullock Road and Tapanappa Ridge Road.

Extinguishing hot spots remains a priority as predicted changes in wind direction and speed has potential to create re-ignitions, increasing the risk of the fire heading toward surrounding communities including Rapid Bay, Second Valley and Yankalilla. Communities in these areas are urged to be ready to enact their bushfire survival plan and use multiple sources to stay informed, in case the situation changes.

A dedicated page has been created on the CFS website at www.cfs.sa.gov.au/deep-creek-fire/ for this incident where ongoing updates and community information can be found.

At this time, it has been confirmed that seven structures have been impacted. SA Police rapid assessment teams will continue to conduct assessments of any potential additional impacts when conditions allow.

Main South Road remains open to all motorists; however, speed restrictions may apply. If you must travel in the area, please drive to conditions and follow directions from emergency services. Hazardous tree assessments are being conducted, with the intent of reopening roads as soon as it is safe to do so. Roads are being reopened in the area, please refer to traffic.sa.gov.au for the most current information.

Anyone within the impacted area will be allowed to leave via the closed roads but will not be able to return until roads are reopened. Given the unpredictable nature of this fire any road closures could change at short notice. CFS still urges anyone to continue avoiding the areas surrounding this fire where possible.

The Deep Creek National Park, Talisker Conservation Park and Second Valley Forest are closed.

A CFS staging area is operating at the Yankalilla Showgrounds, and Yankalilla Oval is being used for aviation operations. A base camp has been established at the Wirrina Cove Holiday Park oval which also causes an increase in emergency services vehicle traffic. The public is asked to stay clear of these areas.

People are also reminded this is an active fireground where the situation is constantly changing.

We are devastated by the fires in Deep Creek it is such a paradise. We have cancelled this weeks tours and will likely need to cancel or reschedule further tours next week. We hope all the fire fighters and volunteers are safe and that everyone living in the area is safe. To think it came so close to Cape Jervis. When we do resume our tours rest assured we will be travelling to the other side of the park and we won’t do so until it is safe. The Department of Water are keeping all licensed operators up to date. Thank you to all that have reached out. After only starting our tours at the end of 2024 for a small business we have faced a lot of challenges. We hope to be back operating soon. Please reach out if you have any questions

Firefighters continue to work hard to contain the Deep Creek Fire, which started on Sunday 1 February.

We understand this is a stressful time so to help keep residents informed, we've launched a dedicated webpage to provide information about the fire and preparedness tips should the situation change.
