Hope everyone is well and stay tuned for more exciting things coming from us πππ
Our golden rule for water bore drilling in Queensland is simple: Make sure there is a licensed driller carrying out or supervising the activity on site. β
That goes for landholders AND businesses, as the owner of Sunshine Coast water bore drilling company learned the hard way in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court last week.
They were fined $30,000 plus ordered to pay legal costs, after our departmentβs compliance investigation found the company owner knowingly directed unlicensed employees to drill 11 water bores without constant supervision. The investigation also found that the company owner provided false and misleading information to the department to conceal the unlawful water bore drilling activities.
The company owner pled guilty to 17 breaches of the Water Act 2000. No conviction was recorded.
Licensed water bore drillers are qualified to drill water bores safely and to Queenslandβs required standards. When a bore is not drilled correctly, it can damage the water aquifer and collapse or fail, costing landholders thousands to remediate or decommission.
Our department is here to support water bore drillers to do the right thing and crack down on those who donβt.
