Just an hour northeast of Perth, you'll find the gorgeous Paruna Wildlife Sanctuary, home to the 2.3km Possum Loop Trail. This scenic walk takes you through beautiful native bushland, past wildflowers and up to Pink Rock Lookout, where you'll be rewarded with some incredible views across the valley.

And here's the exciting part! After being closed for 12 months due to flood damage, Possum Loop has reopened for a limited time, but only until Sunday 1 November 2026. It's currently the only trail open at the sanctuary, so if you've been wanting to explore this beautiful part of WA, now's your chance!

Recognise this handsome fellow? You might have spotted him on a visit to the absolutely gorgeous Sandalford Wines in the Swan Valley!

With a history dating back to 1840, Sandalford is one of WA’s oldest and most celebrated wineries, and the place is simply stunning. Just 25 minutes from Perth in Caversham, this sprawling estate is home to beautiful gardens, sweeping vineyards and an award-winning restaurant serving up delicious food, alongside some fabulous WA wines.

There’s a 100-year-old shipwreck sitting in the shallows of C.Y. O’Connor Beach in North Coogee!

Meet the SS Wyola. Built in England in 1912, this hardworking steam tug spent decades helping ships along the WA coast. But interestingly, it never actually sank! In 1970, the vessel was brought ashore to be dismantled, with part of its stern left behind.

More than 50 years later, its rusted remains are still visible from the beach, a fascinating little piece of WA’s maritime history.

How unreal does Horizontal Falls in the Kimberley look?!

Located in Talbot Bay, this incredible natural wonder is created by powerful tidal currents rushing through two narrow gaps in the McLarty Range, making the water appear to flow sideways.

And you can experience it for yourself! Horizontal Falls Seaplane Adventures offers scenic seaplane flights and guided boat cruises, giving you the chance to see the falls from above and get up close to the spectacular scenery. Some tours even include an overnight stay on the water!

Tours depart from Broome, Derby and Cygnet Bay, with half-day, full-day and overnight experiences available. Tours operate seasonally from March to October, with bookings now open for 2027.

Did you know Perth’s Old Swan Brewery has a history dating back to the 1800s?

Overlooking the Swan River beneath Kings Park, the historic site was once home to a steam-powered mill before becoming one of WA’s best-known breweries in 1879. By the 1920s, Swan Brewery controlled around half of WA’s b**r market!

The site, known as Goonininup, also holds deep cultural significance for Whadjuk Noongar people, with its redevelopment sparking major protests in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Today, the restored red-brick buildings are home to apartments, restaurants and commercial spaces, with plenty of history behind their walls.

Have you seen what's happening after dark in the City of Joondalup?

Bloom has taken over Central Park, and it's looking pretty spectacular! With glowing forests, colourful lasers, giant holographic animals and interactive light displays, the whole park has been transformed into something quite extraordinary.

This year's theme, Living Connections, takes you through four different worlds inspired by Australian wildlife, with plenty of surprises along the way. It's a fun evening out for all ages, and you've only got until 25 October 2026 to experience it!

Did you know there’s a network of World War II tunnels hidden beneath Buckland Hill in Mosman Park?

Built during WWII to help defend Fremantle Harbour, the Leighton Battery originally included more than 400 metres of underground tunnels, used for am******on storage, command facilities and supporting the gun crews above. The site later became home to Australia's only operational dual-purpose 5.25-inch coastal artillery and anti-aircraft battery.

Today, you can head underground and explore the restored tunnel complex for yourself, with guided tours available every Sunday from 10am to 3pm.

A trip to Rotto isn't quite complete without a visit to Hotel Rottnest!

Overlooking Thomson Bay, this much-loved island pub has been a favourite among locals and visitors for years. With a spacious outdoor b**r garden right by the beach, it's a lovely place to enjoy a meal or a drink after a day of swimming, cycling and exploring the island.

The menu includes pub favourites, fresh WA seafood and pizzas, alongside local b**rs, wines and cocktails. You'll also find live music and regular events throughout the year.

Have you tackled Jacob’s Ladder?

With 242 concrete steps climbing the Mount Eliza escarpment between Mounts Bay Road and Cliff Street, Jacob’s Ladder has become one of Perth’s best-known outdoor fitness challenges. But the stairs actually have more than a century of history behind them.

The original stairway was built in 1909 from jarrah, providing residents with a much easier route between the top of Mount Eliza and the river below. The timber stairs were eventually replaced by the winding concrete staircase we know today, and generations of Perth locals have since used the climb to put their legs and lungs to the test!
