A post from a safari operator in TZ, the challenges, logistics and ethics! 🇹🇿

“I am genuinely surprised by how many negative and critical posts I see about safaris in Tanzania and the remaining continent. 🌍

I'd like to share a few facts that many visitors may not realize. On a typical Tarangire – Manyara – Ngorongoro Crater – Serengeti – Arusha safari route, the international park fees, Ngorongoro fees, and budget campsite fees for two adults alone usually total around $900–1,000 USD. That does not include the vehicle, fuel, driver, cook, or operational costs!💰

Safari drivers work incredibly hard to give guests the best possible experience. They spend the entire day tracking wildlife, communicating with other drivers, sharing information, and doing everything they can to help visitors see animals. What feels like a guided zoo experience to many tourists is actually the result of teamwork, experience, and a lot of effort.

Meanwhile, cooks manage food, camp logistics, and preparations. In many cases, the tents are already set up and waiting when guests arrive! 🥩

Yes, there are occasional mechanical problems, muddy roads, dust, and unexpected challenges. This is the African wilderness. We always stop to help other vehicles when they get stuck. What often surprises us is that while several people are trying to winch or push a vehicle out of the mud, the tourists remain seated inside. Sometimes removing just 300 kg of passenger weight would make the recovery much easier. 🫟

This is not a spa, a wellness retreat, or a five-star resort. It is a real wilderness experience. If someone wants perfect roads and complete comfort, there are fully developed and paved safari destinations available elsewhere.

Unfortunately, increasing demands for comfort often lead to more construction and development, which can slowly damage the very ecosystem people come to see.

And if anyone still believes safaris are overpriced or easy to operate, I encourage them to try the same route with their own vehicle and their own logistics.

I kindly ask tourists to be a little more understanding and patient. You are not buying a perfect service—you are experiencing something truly unique, something that may stay with you for the rest of your life! “

THE SOUL OF TANZANIA es**rted by Vicki Gordon

The Journey: Arusha · Tarangire · Ngorongoro · Ndutu · Serengeti · Zanzibar. All-inclusive from AUD $19,700 AUD per person, including international and domestic airfares.

Maximum 16 guests, travelling in four dedicated 4WD safari vehicles, each with its own professional guide-driver. An exceptional, once-in-a-lifetime fifteen-day es**rted journey through Tanzania’s most iconic landscapes and wildlife strongholds.

Begin in Arusha, the elegant gateway to the Northern Safari Circuit. Venture into Tarangire National Park, a timeless wilderness of ancient baobabs and one of Africa’s largest elephant populations. Ascend the Great Rift Valley escarpment to the world-renowned Ngorongoro Crater, descending to its fertile floor for an intimate encounter with the highest density of wildlife in Africa.

Continue to the nutrient-rich short-grass plains of Ndutu, where the annual wildebeest calving season unfolds — one of nature’s most profound spectacles, with thousands of newborns taking their first steps amid dramatic predator activity.

The legendary Serengeti follows, with its vast golden plains and unparalleled big-cat action. Here you will stay in refined comfort at Lemala Ewanjan, enjoying a private sunrise hot-air balloon flight over the savannah and an exclusive sundowner on Mkoma Hill.

The journey culminates with four restorative nights on the pristine shores of Zanzibar. Fringed by turquoise waters and powder-white beaches, this historic Spice Island provides the perfect, sun-soaked finale to an unforgettable East African odyssey.
