I posted this to my personal page 10 years ago, before Covid 19 and before the current wars and unrest in so many countries.

But it is still worthy of posting again - people are good,
and travel is wonderful and I can't wait to do it all again.

However I wouldn't, or couldn't, bring myself to travel like Robin Greenfield did, with no money.

Who loves the pre-flight scramble to get your bag into the overhead locker above your seat?...

Well it seems that Jetstar is going to introduce a new charge of $25 for domestic flights (and more than double this amount for international flights) for putting your own carry on luggage into the plane!?!?!?!?!?!

Next we'll be charged to go to the toilet on the plane like the CEO of Ryan Air has suggested!

My first cruise was on this ship, The Oriana, back in 1983, and boy did that start a love of cruising, although it was markedly different.

I went on the cruise alone but was in a room with 3 other strangers, all girls. And we had to go down the hall to the bathroom. There was a hole in the wall pizza place for late night food.
Those were the days.

Do you know anyone who sailed on her? Or did you sail to Australia on a passenger ship like this to start a new life in a new country?

The Queen of the Sea and Australia's party ship had quite a life.

2004 Taken out by a massive typhoon

Friday dreaming.

Cunard line has 4 Queens now and I'm chuffed to say I've sailed on all 4.
Different, yes, but they all feel like coming home as soon as we are welcomed aboard.

Of course a drunken, male, Kiwi tourist dove into the Trevi fountain. That's what you do when you've travelled 18,430 kilometres and you've probably been dared by your 'bros'.....

I’m not sure why I like Melbourne.

I’m a Sydney girl from the idyllic Northern Beaches.

I was dragged to Melbourne, kicking and screaming in 2005, after a period of loss and upheaval; I didn’t have time to grieve.

And despite renting there for 15 years it became home.

It is a pretty city but I think it’s the people - not the ones in balaclavas - all the other people.

And now, based in rural Tasmania with regular visits to Melbourne, I think I love Melbourne more than ever before.

This is sad.

The sheer joy of having those exotic little stamps from foreign locations was a badge of your intrepid travelling skills - wasn’t it?

The passport stamp era is officially ending.

As of April 10, the passport stamp is officially gone from 29 European countries. Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and 23 others in the Schengen Area have switched to the EU's Entry/Exit System. It captures your fingerprints, facial image, and a digital record in place of ink.

Two exceptions: Ireland and Cyprus sit outside Schengen entirely and still stamp manually, no caveats.

The window is not completely closed, though. Member states can suspend EES checks for up to 90 days after April 10, with a possible 60-day extension, to manage summer congestion. Spain has already flagged a delayed rollout running through September. France has reported capacity issues at Charles de Gaulle. If you have a Europe trip booked before September 2026, some airports may still be stamping passports while the system catches up. It is not guaranteed and you cannot request it, but the chance is real.
