Multicultural Business Forum 2025

The Multicultural Business Forum 2025 was held at the Trade Ministry Auditorium, with our President, Mrs. Dilkie Perera, proudly attending as a representative of the Australia Sri Lankan Business Council.

This significant event was an initiative of the Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC), led by Commissioner Bill Papastergiadis OAM, in partnership with the City of Melbourne and proudly sponsored by the Bank of Sydney.

The forum featured valuable insights from prominent leaders in business and government, including:
• Hon. Natalie Suleyman, Minister for Small Business and Employment
• Viv Nguyen, Chairperson of the Victorian Multicultural Commission
• Nicholas Reece, Lord Mayor of Melbourne
• Melos Sulicich, CEO of Bank of Sydney
• The CEO of the Melbourne Press Club

Each speaker emphasised the success and growing impact of the multicultural business platform, recognising its vital role in shaping Victoria’s dynamic, inclusive, and forward-looking commercial landscape.

The event brought together business leaders from diverse communities, government officials, and Multicultural Commissioners making it a resounding success and a true celebration of Victoria’s rich multicultural business community.

A Pre-Posting Consultation session was held with the Australian High Commissioner designate to Sri Lanka HE Mathew Duckworth at the Australia Sri Lanka Business Council offices in Melbourne, on 30 July 2025. The Council EXCO and the advisors and consultants attended the lengthy and very constructive session and many new bilateral trade, investment, educational, up-skilling, and tourism promotional avenues of mutual benefit were discussed.

Inaugural AGM and launching of the Global Federation of Sri Lankan Business Councils in Colombo 25 July 2025. The grand launch with all the trimmings was held at the Shangri - la Hotel , with the participation of His Excellency the President Anura Kumara Dissanayeke and the Key note delivered by Minister for Foreign Affairs, Jobs and tourism Hon Vijitha Herath. Presidents of the Sri Lankan Business Councils of Japan, Dubai, US, Australia, Canada, China, Singapore, Bangladesh. France, Italy, Sweden, Sri Lanka and NewZealand and other Chambers attended. The High Commissioners for Italy and New Zealand all visiting presidents of the Councils and the Dir General of BOI & EDB made presentations.
The vibe was very positive and many connections were made. This influential and strong platform will support the government’s efforts in promoting multi- lateral trade, investment and tourism. Sajeeve Rajaputhra, the Secretary General of the Federation must be commended for making the launch possible. Australia Sri Lanka Business Council is proud to be part of the inaugural team.

The CEO of S.A. Thomson, Sanjika Abeyratne hosted a premium property investment promotional night in collaboration with Prime Land Group of Sri Lanka, with the appearance of the group’s ambassador, sensational singing idol Umaria Sinhawansa.
Prime Land Group is a pioneer in the property development in Sri Lanka and has completed 42 apartment towers and 24 residential projects in Sri Lanka. The latest developments also include the breath taking “Venecia -Venice in Comes to Nigombo , Sri Lanka.
The Prime group was represented by Rasika Udayanga, a Director of the Group, who spoke on the achievements and the culture of the group and Sanjika the CEO of SA Thompsons Nerys explained the importance of choosing the correct investment mode approved by the Central Bank.
