Well what can I say? The photos speak for themselves. This was our first Hipcamp. We stayed at Rangetop Farm at Ocean View. Basically Northwest of Brisbane. The host was great and so was the property.
What a beautiful place, with amazing views!
Very peaceful and quiet which is exactly what I have been searching for 😊.

Although the weather did give us an absolute hiding come nightfall!
It was quite windy and cool when we arrived, and by dusk the wind had died down. By the time we got to bed, the wind picked up and it got worse and worse until it became wild! It was howling like a ghost and our tents were being thrashed violently for the entire night! The wind was bitter cold also.

These are just weather events that can quickly turn any great getaway into a total disaster and make it very dangerous if you are not prepared or tie down items properly. It all looks like happy fun at the calm and sunny camping expo shows, but once the weather turns, its game on!

Gazebos, awnings, solar panels, camp chairs, etc can become flying missiles. Even our tent felt like it was starting to lift off the ground with some of the strong wind gusts.
Luckily I had double pegged it to the ground with extra heavy guy ropes earlier in the day just as a precaution.

Anyway we were all safe with minimum damage to our camp gearπŸ‘

Loaded and ready for tomorrow's 2 night getaway πŸ•.

Pre trip inspections are a must.
Fluids, engine belts, tyre pressures, wheel bearings, visual inspections for oil leaks etc.
I have always been fussy with maintenance & repairs.

It's much easier to repair or replace at home than roadside πŸ‘Œ

I picked up this semi flexible solar panel to try out on our next adventure.

I just wanted something light and easy to throw up on the car roof, or beside the car once we pull up at camp. This panel is 160 watts and 9 amps maximum output, which is more than our old folding panels, so it's an improvement.

We will be heading on our first Hipcamp voyage in a few weeks time so I am looking forward to our quiet, private and scenic location high on the hills north of Brisbane ⛺️

Has anybody else noticed the moral decline in national park campground behaviours over the last few years, or is it just us?

It seems that every single time that we go to a national park on weekends or holidays, whether it's in Qld or Nsw, we seem to attract the small minority groups of ignorant, entitled ferals that have mistaken the outdoors for a nightclub. I guess the low cost and no rules must attract that behaviour.

Questions:
- Is it neccessary to have the music and bass turned up to maximum volume until 1am?
- To swear, scream & shout until 1am like a chainsaw massacre film?
- To chop wood and slam car doors all through the night?
- To throw and smash glass bottles in the fire rings after midnight?
- To shine spotlights at tents randomly throughout the night?

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy having drinks and having a good time as much as the next punter, but I am considerate of the many other people that are close by that are either trying to sleep or enjoy the peace and quiet - which is kind of the idea of leaving the cities and the nightclub scene.

We will never stay at any national park again unless it is a normal weekday.
Thank goodness for the many private camp / farmstays and websites like hipcamp etc, that offer amazing and peaceful places, even at higher costs.

Any price is worth it just to get away from the noisy minority groups and enjoy some peace and quiet.

What are your thoughts?
Am I being over dramatic, or does this regularly happen to you. . . . .?

I highly rate these Unifilter pre filter snorkel foam socks. My old one lasted 4 years and had caught grasshoppers, stones, dust etc, and even a wasp had built a nest inside 🐝

They all come pre oiled, although i always wash out the oil with degreaser and put them in dry, as the oil vapour can build up on the air sensor / MAP sensor in the EFI engines πŸ‘πŸΌ

I thought it was about time to replace the 80000 km, 12 year old steering damper. It had served me well though. I have never used a 'return to centre' spring damper so i can't compare the two, although I have never had any issues with the budget Oztec brand. I am going to try the Commando, which is also a budget brand and is the same brand as my latest shock absorbers. Commando use a foam cell system and they seem to give a really soft and comfy ride πŸ‘ŒπŸΌ

I am very happy with the look of these 33x12.5x15 Nitto Trail Grappler bad boys. They seemed surprisingly quiet and felt very smooth on the drive home.

I have always used a 15x8 inch rim for a few different reasons.
The 15 inch height is a no brainer.
The bigger the sidewall, the better the grip when aired down as the tyres mould & deform better over obstacles. Plus the added comfort of a smoother ride on rough surfaces 😊

The 8 inch width has two benefits over a 10 inch rim. It helps to keep the tyre width in check so that it dosent protrude passed the outside of the vehicle by too far, and also adds more pressure on the tyre bead to rim, to prevent rim spin when the air pressures are very low, and without using bead lock rims πŸ˜‰

After 5 years of running 35 inch tyres, I have decided to reduce the tyre size back to 33 inch for legal purposes only.

I refuse to drop almost $10000 on a 'brand name' suspension package to mod plate my GQ Patrol to legally run 35 inch tyres in Queensland.

Considering this 'brand name' suspension upgrade has NO brake upgrade, NO speedo correction unit, and NO diff gears to bring your gear ratios back to standard.
This is a joke right? No its totally safe and legal, but only if you pay the big bucks.

And to think that the biggest safety compromise in a larger diameter tyre is poorer braking performance.

My vehicle has the larger front brakes with twin piston calipers (like all 4.2 & 4.8 petrol Patrols), it has the speedo correction (18 tooth speedo drive gear), and 4.6 diff gear ratios as to bring the drive gearing back to standard.
Illegal & unsafe, unless you pay up. . . . . .

Well after 12 years of ownership, I decided that it was time to put on the front & rear swaybars. Not really sure why I had left them off for so long. I guess it drove quite well without. At least I thought it did.

Now that the swaybars are both on, the drive and handling is SO much better. And its only a couple of bolts to undo for a weekend play on the tracks 😊
