I know the water is dead flat and the breeze is very favourable and there’s no tide much to worry about here and the dock is nicely set up so I don’t need to put fender boards on but to tell you the truth I did find it a little bit nerve racking. I’ve never talked to anything as large as this and I really wasn’t certain how it would go but it turned out. It worked out very smoothly and I even managed to manipulate her using lines back around the corner to Free up the area where you pump out your black water tank. It was lovely just to step a board hook up a hose freshwater wash on the deck and I had a couple of hours there before I went back out to my Anchorage.

I’ve been playing around in my mind with the concept of slowing down. I’m often talking to people about slowing down slowing down doesn’t mean stopping necessarily what it does mean though is just changing the rhythm of life a bit for the last three months

I’ve been running been running away from the deepest hurt of my life and I was frightened that if I stopped that that wave of grief would just crash over me and it’s true it does but each time it crashes over you. It serves its purpose. It makes you a little more tender a little more compassionate and I think a little more useful to others

Seagull deterrents. To be honest I’m uncertain which is best to have on your boat kookaburras or seagulls but one thing for sure you’re not gonna have both. I am a little concerned about a big heavy bird like that sitting on top of my wind indicator. What do you use to deter seagulls on your boat? It’s a full on seagull rookie around here with every boat has its own little flock except mine. I wonder why?

I guess it depends on what you’re using The Boat for to some extent and what’s a good match with the motor. My new boat has a 30 hp beta diesel in it and I’ll be using her for cruising not racing. I noticed that the two blade prop creates a lot of prop walk. I wonder if that will be reduced with a three blade prop and I think performance in reverse generally will be improved. What are your thoughts blade or three blade?

I’m learning to treasure these quiet early-morning walks beside the lake—the stillness, the peaceful moments and those sublime sunrises that make the whole world feel at rest.

But this afternoon, 30 knots is forecast from the northwest, and I’m wondering what it will bring. Will it test the mooring? Will the old girl ride it out comfortably?

Life can feel a lot like this lake. We enjoy the calm while it lasts—but rest assured, the storms will come, and they will test what we’re anchored to.

So I’m soaking up the peace this morning…and making sure the mooring is secure.

And speaking of the old girl, she won’t be sailing under that name forever. Her new name—and the story behind it—will be revealed soon. ⛵️

There is wisdom in the way a pelican moves across the water—no hurry, no wasted effort, simply gliding into the first light of a brand-new day.

Perhaps life isn’t always about pushing harder. Sometimes it’s about trusting what is carrying us, settling into the rhythm of the morning and quietly moving forward.
