Great start to August out the front of Mandiri Beach Club.
Mandiri Beach is central to all breaks in the area, and is exposed to all swells, always packing a punch. The waves come from deep water, breaking onto shallow sand banks, providing us with hollow, long reeling walls.

If you have a minute please support Cronulla surfers by signing the petition here via this link

It will help them exert pressure on their politicians to maintain their beaches, because they don't have much sand left anymore.
Perfect Wave is a northern beaches based business. We do have a lot of clients from Cronulla and the Shire and both Eastern and Western Subs too, as well as all over Australia and globally, particularly Europe, USA, The Maldives, Indonesia and Sth America. We don't often highlight local environmental issues. However, because we have staff based in Cronulla we wanted to try and help southern Sydney surfers by highlighting the fact that they are lobbying local politicians on council, local, state and federal members to budget for urgent sand replenishment. This issue is huge on the Gold Coast, Sydney's northern beaches, the Central Coast and many other locales unfortunately. The bulk of the damage done down at Cronulla was via extensive sandmining carried out in the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. I mean the threepeat La Niña events in 1973-1976 and 1998-2001, and 2020-2023 didn't help either as more ECL's tore sand of the beaches in those years. The infamous 1974 storm swells, the crazy winter of 2007 (The Pasha Bulker winter whereby 8 x consecutive Lows gouged sand from all beaches in NSW. ) The problem with Cronulla's beaches is all the sand mined in the 60's, 70's, 80's is gone for good. There has been little or no sand replenishment, only further storm erosion. Add the growth of Marram grass and other non native plants and you have the perfect storm literally, and it's ongoing. Unfortunately what has been taken away, can never be fully replaced, but we can at least advocate for council and other levels of government to budget for sand replenishment. Port Hacking has too much sand, so building a pipeline to replenish the beaches with that sand would be a long term solution, but in the meantime, they should take a leaf out of how the Gold Coast council always replenish their beaches post cyclone swells as a starting point and begin budgeting annually for sand replenishment so future gens can have a beach.
