Today I had the privilege of being among the first travel agents in Australia to step onboard and inspect Queen Anne while she is in Sydney for a two night stop during her world cruise.

Cunard’s newest ship, launched in 2024, blends classic ocean liner elegance with contemporary design. From grand staircases and refined lounges to beautifully designed staterooms and sweeping ocean views, every space reflects Cunard’s long tradition of elegant sea travel.

Queen Anne features multiple dining venues, world class dining, a spa and wellness space, iconic entertainment, elegant venues including the famous Queens Room ballroom, and beautifully curated public areas throughout the ship. Service onboard reflects Cunard’s signature old world charm with a modern touch.

One of the traditions Cunard is known for is its Gala Evenings, where guests have the chance to dress up in black tie or elegant evening wear, bringing back the glamour of classic ocean travel.

Filtered by star rating
Assumed that meant the same thing everywhere

It doesn’t

And that’s where expectations get built
And disappointment creeps in

There is no global authority regulating hotel star ratings
Different countries apply different regulations
Some operate government-run classification systems
Others rely on private inspectors such as Forbes Travel Guide
And in certain markets, hotels can market themselves without formal oversight

That applies to all stars
3-star 4-star 5-star

The standards are not universal

Stars measure facilities and operational requirements
They do not measure renovation freshness design style or the overall experience you are expecting
