【What you can shop in Ginza】

You can shop at one of the biggest Sanrio stores in Japan!

There are many items like stationery, kitchen utensils, bags etc.

Hellokitty had a major influence on Japanese "Kawaii" culture, and became very popular around the world.

But why...? It is said the simplicity of her character is the key.

She was designed with her large eyes and nose, no mouth. That's very simple.

Yuko Yamaguchi, current leading Hellokitty designer says
"She doesn't have a mouth so that people who look at her can project their own feelings onto her face, because she has an expressionless face. Kitty looks happy when people are happy. She looks sad when they are sad. For this psychological reason, we thought she shouldn't be tied to any emotion – and that's why she doesn't have a mouth."

[What you can see in Ginza]

The lion statue is the symbol of Mitsukoshi, the first department store in Japan.

If you've been to London, you may be familiar with the lion...

Yes, it is inspired by famous lion statues at London’s Trafalgar Square.

The lion was placed at the entrance of Mitsukoshi in 1914 by the manager, Mr. Osuke Hibi. He loved the lion, so his son was named "lion".

The statue was acquired by the Japanese military during WWII in order to melt it down to use for military purposes. Miraculously, it could escape melting and was found by Mitsukoshi staff when it was left at a shrine.

Today the lion wears a mask to prevent from covid19 and pollen allergy, and also enjoys firefighter costume during a fire prevention week!

The Northern part of Japan is very famous for its powder snow, attracting tourists from the whole world but if you are visiting Japan during our winter, even if you are not into winter sports, there’s plenty to see and do and the snow makes the scenery even more charming 💞

It’s so nice to be able to meet Ginza’s cupid again!
Tenshudo is a watch and jewerely shop with more than 140 years of history and people come to greet and take pictures of this cute cupid but in 2019 it “disappeared” since a new building was under construction. It was actually in front of their new shop, but in a different location and not on the street level so most people just thought it disappeared…
Now that the new building is ready, the cute cupid is back where it’s been “waiting for victims” to fall in love since 1997.

Arashiyama is one of the most famous areas to visit in Kyoto during the Autumn season and the peak of the red leaves in most parts is expected in around 10 days… but I love to visit the places right now, being able to enjoy all the colours… from the still fresh green leaves to the ones turning yellow and the red.. we can also see some leaves on the ground too… I could spend the day strolling at this garden 💞😊

It’s Golden Week! One of the longest public holidays in Japan, from celebrating the birthday of a past Emperor to our constitution and Green Day… For many, it’s the longest time off work they can enjoy, starting on April 29th all the way till May 5th, when we celebrate Children’s Day, former Boy’s Day 😅 For those with boys in their house it’s a tradition to raise flags in a shape of carps wishing their boys to be as strong as these fishes that goes upriver against all the challenges… The weather is great but usually not a recommended time of the year to visit Japan since bullet trains, domestic flights are usually super busy, as it’s hard to find hotels last minute and so many good restaurants and shops are closed… if you do come, we recommend researching the places you wish to visit before heading to the places. But it’s the time of the year to finally use this emoji!!! 😅 🎏🎏 🎉🎊

Such a lovely time yesterday sharing a bit of Tokyo to 40 kids from @edithfoundation in Mexico... it’s amazing how we are so far but we could connect through their curiosity and feel how interested they are about the Japanese culture, food and history! 💞 thank you all for the lovely time!

Snack time at Tokyo Mizumachi... Ichiya is a Japanese traditional sweets shop at Tokyo Mizumachi... there were a nice selection of dorayaki, these little pancake like sweets filled with red bean paste and other flavors such as green tea or strawberry... the only problem is, which one to choose!? 😱🤔

A little stroll today around Tokyo Mizumachi, a lovely area opened last year next to Sumida River, near Tokyo SkyTree. 😊

If you are planning to come to Tokyo and wondering how it looks like in December... 😊

Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden started to open 7 am since August and it seems, it’s going to be like that until mid-March but I hope they change their minds and it becomes the usual hours of the garden.... such an amazing place to start your day ☺️ if you arrive there before 9 am though, note that You have to use the Shinjuku Gate. I love how we can enjoy Autumn colours for so many weeks 😍
