The Department of Home Affairs has made changes to the English language tests that are approved for Australian visa purposes TODAY.

If you completed your English language test before 07/08/20025, your test will still be valid for the usual length of time, however tests taken from today must meet the new required scores and eligibility timeframes.

Some good news for Parent visa applicants!

Parent visa applications are still paper-based applications, but the Department of Home Affairs has now made it possible to import a Parent visa application into IMMI Account (once the Department of Home Affairs has acknowledged it).

That means that Parent visa applicants will be able to:

👉 Upload supporting documents;
👉 View messages from the Department of Home Affairs;
👉 Update personal details; and
👉 View the application’s status.

The services are available for all new and existing applications, except for Parent (subclass 103) visa applications lodged before November 2018.

‼️ Update from Live in Melbourne- Victoria’s skilled visa nomination program 2024-25 ‼️

"Victoria's 2024-25 state nominated skilled visa program will close to new Registrations of Interest (ROI) at 4pm AEST on Tuesday 29 April 2025.

In 2024-25 the Australian Government allocated Victoria 5,000 skilled visa places, including 3,000 for the subclass 190 visa and 2,000 for the subclass 491 visa. The program has attracted a lot of interest this year and has received many more ROIs than available places.

The program will continue to assess and invite submitted ROIs for the 2024-25 program until all places are filled."

‼️MIGRATION UPDATE ‼️

Two important updates from the Department of Home Affairs!

🚩1. Subclass 482 and subclass 494 visa holders

The Department of Home Affairs has confirmed that if:

A. You have stopped working for your sponsor; and
B. You have found a new employer; and
C. That employer has submitted nomination application for you,

You DO NOT need to stop working if the nomination application hasn't been approved and it has been more than 180 days since you worked for your sponsor.

👍This is good news and means that visa holders will no longer be disadvantaged by delays in processing nomination transfers as they will continue to have work rights, ensuring they can support themselves while awaiting the outcome of their nomination application.👍

🚩2. Subclass 186 visa applicants

Following the changes in December 2024, subclass 186 Temporary Residence Transition Stream visa applicants are no longer required to have worked with the same employer for two years in the three years immediately preceding their application.

The Department of Home Affairs has confirmed that where an applicant has changed employers, periods of employment BETWEEN THE LODGEMENT OF A NOMINATION APPLICATION AND ITS APPROVAL can be counted towards meeting the two year requirement.

👍This is again good news because it means that visa holders will not be disadvantaged by delays in processing nomination transfers. 👍

The Department of Home Affairs released the Core Skills Occupation List ("CSOL") earlier today!

The CSOL will apply to the Core Skills Stream of the new Skills in Demand visa. The Skills in Demand visa will replace the subclass 482 Temporary Skills Shortage visa on 07/12/2024.

The CSOL will also apply to the Direct Entry Stream of the subclass 186 Employer Nomination Scheme visa.

‼️MIGRATION UPDATE‼️

In this year's Federal Budget, the Australian Government announced that the work experience requirement for the subclass 482 Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa would be reduced from two years to one year for all applicants from 23/11/2024 onwards.

The legislative instrument that is needed to make this change hasn't been released, so this change HAS NOT come into effect.

The Department of Home Affairs has previously stated that it anticipates that the new Skills in Demand (SID) visa will be in place by the end of this year.

The SID visa will replace the TSS visa.

The SID visa will have a one year work experience requirement, so it may be likely that the one year work experience amendment has been delayed until the SID visa is launched.
