Camino Women just wrapped up another bonding trekking adventure !

They started off in Uzbekistan, where they connected with the locals, tasted some yummy food and learned so much about the ancient Silk Road. Then they hopped off to Tajikistan’s wilderness for the trekking part of the adventure.

One of their highlights? Camping beside the river.

Here are some of our favourite shots from the trek in Tajikistan.😍

Sophie here - reminiscing on a trip from a few years back, and wanted to share it with you!

You all know I am a big fan of Southeast Asia, and back in September 2024, myself, my partner (who is a hiking guide), and our 12-year-old son, Charlie, set off to Khao Sok National Park in Thailand to do a three-day hiking adventure. The idea was that we’d hike through the day, and each night sleep in hammocks in the jungle; amongst the monkeys, elephants, and whatever else was out there... How amazing! We were so excited!!

Being September, I realised the flights were cheap for a reason, it’s monsoon season in Thailand, and as you can imagine, the rain was unbelievable. I’m talking that sideways, can’t-hear-yourself-think, kind of rain!

We’d planned to do a river float one afternoon, but the river was closed due to dangerous conditions. I said to my partner, Hayden, the night before our hike, “Surely we can’t be hiking in this tomorrow?” Reception confirmed that the guides were on their way. No cancellations. So, I hoped it might at least ease overnight 🤞 But it just proceeded to rain even harder!

The next morning, our guides, Tao and Tun, arrived. Tun wearing a t-shirt that read; 'I don't need Google, my Mum knows everything' (that reminds me, I need to get that one for Charlie 😉), both in shorts, thongs, and carrying a machete and a plastic shopping bag, each. No raincoats. No English. And, off we went..

We set off on our 10km hike into the jungle, but the trailhead, well actually, the entire trail, was flooded. The mud was deep and there were leeches everywhere! We climbed over slippery tree roots and crossed rivers multiple times. What was meant to be ankle-deep water was, for me, waist-deep, and for my son, chest-deep at times.. which he found hilarious. We felt safe holding the guides’ hands, but they definitely had their work cut out for them.

At lunch, Tao and Tun put up a tarp for a bit of respite from the rain and pulled out banana-leaf-wrapped fried rice and pineapple. All from this miraculous, bottomless, Mary Poppins plastic bag they'd both been carrying.

During lunch, I whispered to Hayden; “We can’t possibly sleep in hammocks tonight.” He said, “Don’t worry, I’ll sort it.” So, Charlie and I waited while Hayden went off to speak to the guides. He returned with the biggest smile on his face:

“We’re sleeping in a cave tonight.”
Oh?
“A bat cave.”
Oh. 😬 (Would you say he 'sorted it'? 🤔)

Turns out, we were talking about the same kind of bat cave. Charlie was giddy, so what choice did I have but to go along with it? So, we hiked the rest of the afternoon and eventually, this huge, dark cave came up on the right hand side. There were elephant prints leading into it, bats flying overhead, and a mysterious hole at the back that I wanted nothing to do with. Naturally, Hayden and Charlie couldn’t help but explore. Thankfully, one of the guides took the tarp and covered the hole. In broken English, he explained it was “to stop animals coming out.” Brilliant.

The guides then collected and chopped bamboo; building a washing line, a fire, carving out cups, bowls, spoons, even a cooking stand. All with their Machete's. That Mary Poppins bag came out again, and from it: coconut milk, chicken, soy sauce, sugar, and chilli. They cooked us one of the best curries of my life!

They used the ferns we’d collected while hiking, and while waiting for dinner, we played cards, drank hot chocolate, and tonight we were to sleep on sleeping mats in human-sized rim pools.

Just before I went to sleep, I leaned over to kiss Charlie goodnight, and my headtorch lit up the crevice in the wall behind where we were sleeping and it was ALIVE spiders. Did I tell him? Absolutely not. We both needed the sleep 😅

Tao and Tun took it in turns to stay awake and steer away monkeys with their flashlights. In the morning, we found a porcupine quill, which now lives in Charlie’s treasure chest to this day.

And would you believe it? Despite the spiders, the bats, and the monsoon rivers… it was one of the best sleeps, and experiences, of our lives 💚

Now that's my 'Wild-side of Thailand' story.. have you ever been in a situation where you're just thinking... 'How did I get here?' Please share, so I know I'm not alone, because sometimes I feel this is the story of my life! 🤣👇

Mat is in Laos! (pics to prove it below 😄)

He finally gave in to my endless raving about the trail and went to see it for himself. Can you blame him?

Mat met up with our local crew – told you Laotians are the warmest and the most welcoming people you’ll ever meet! He also chatted with the villagers and enjoyed some delish food! They’re all so excited to greet our next group there.

And just look at that greenery… 😍💚

Maybe you ARE too old, maybe you’re NOT fit enough, maybe you DON’T have enough hiking experience.
Or maybe…

For the first time in a long time… it’s finally YOUR turn.

Olivia here, I hear it all the time.
👉The quiet fear of the unknown.
👉The doubts about fitness.
👉The voice inside wondering, “Who even am I now?”

Maybe, you've spent the past 10, 15, even 20 years showing up for everyone else. Your family, your work, your people. You’ve raised beautiful humans, built a life you’re proud of… and now that the nest is empty, something is 'missing', you’re left standing there asking, “What now?”

And we see you.

You’re not the only one.

One of our guests, Jacqui, was nervous about her first solo trip after losing her husband. But she said yes anyway (fear and all) and ended up walking into a group of women who became life-long friends, she was literally BEAMING with excitement on our call when she returned home. In fact, they’re already planning their next adventure together 🥹

Another Camion Woman turned 60 just before flying out to Slovenia. She called it *“The Year of Kim.”* And she meant it. New boots, new country, new story.

Sooo many women come to us saying:
👉🏼 “My kids have grown up and moved out / on with their lives”
👉🏼 “My husband’s not into hiking.”
👉🏼 “None of my friends would ever do this.... I’m the crazy one who actually likes walking for fun!”

And guess what? That so-called “crazy one” is our kind of woman. The one who lights up when she’s outside. Who wants more than just a poolside holiday. Who craves the feeling of standing on the peaks of the Himalayas or wandering through the valleys of Slovenia and thinking, “I did this. For me.”

That’s what Camino Women is for. You have me, Sophie & Pippa here to chat anytime!

We take care of the training tips. We’ll recommend the best trip to match your vibe and fitness level. We’ll give you all the guidance, packing lists, and encouragement in the world. But most importantly?

You’ll be walking with a group of powerhouse women who get it. Who get you.

And time and time again, they come back. They bring sisters, friends, even colleagues. Because something magic happens when you say yes to yourself.

So maybe you are too old, too unfit, too inexperienced...

Or maybe...... you’re just getting started. 😉

🫖🍷 Grab a cuppa (or pour a cheeky wine), pop your feet up, and scroll through our upcoming trips.
Who knows… your “Year of You” might be just one click away... I double dare you!

What’s cooking in Nepal, ladies?

After a stroll around Kathmandu, our Camino Women found themselves chopping, stirring and filling their bellies with traditional Nepalese food.

They even stumbled upon a local Hindi wedding – all before their trek even started.

Now they’re off to the Annapurna Base Camp. Wishing you the best of luck!

We can’t wait to hear about the bonds you form along the trail. ♥️

Sophie here 👋🏻

It seems only a minute ago I was trekking the Soum Son Trail in Laos, and now I am in the Mountains of Albania trekking what I can of the Peaks of the Balkans trail!!

Have you seen that itinerary? If not, you must! 👇🏻

The reason I decided to drag my family across the world to visit Albania, Montenegro and Kosovo, was because I'd heard such incredible feedback from the ladies who trekked here in 2024 😍 I just had to see it for myself!

While it isn't quite the right season to be here, we are having the most surreal experience. The scenery is like nothing we have ever seen, and the food is absolutely delicious (I'm particularly enjoying the smokey kebabs!). And, have you seen the colour of that water? No editing required! It's the most milky blue, but also freezing cold.. I haven't mustered up the strength for a swim yet, but those adventurers travelling with us in June and August will definitely get the chance.

Stay posted guys, we have still to get through Kosovo and Montenegro, and I'll be sure to keep sharing about our adventure.

Happy trails! 🥾 🙌🏻

Meet Pippa! ♥️

Pippa is the new addition to our tight-knit Camino Women bookings team. She’s found her place in our hearts almost instantly. One of our team members even said: ‘When I grow up, I want to be Pippa!’

She’s had itchy feet since she was 17 years old when her loving mum encouraged her to set off to Nepal. Today, her travel list counts more than 25 countries.

“I hope I will be able to inspire you to grab your precious life and travel as far and wide as you can”, she says.

Pippa’s recent favourite adventure was walking the Camino de Santiago – all 900 kilometres of it!

On top of that, she climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa and one of the Seven Summits.

Imagine how she felt when she finally reached the 5,895-metre-high Uhuru Peak. Her smiling eyes in the second photo say it all.

And she did it twice! 🤩

That’s double the amount of joy, awe and pride. (Just how we feel about having Pippa with us)

Would you ever dare to climb Mount Kilimanjaro?

It’s a wrap. Our Camino Women crew just returned from a trip in Vietnam ♥️

Some of the highlights they were bragging about – the locals’ kindness blew them all away. The homestay in Nghia Lo was one for the books! Phone galleries overflowing with photos of rice paddies and bellies full of phở.

Is Vietnam on your travel list?

Alright, our epic trip design is working on a brand new hike and we just had to ask:

On which mountain trek you’d spend 5 out of 13 nights in a hammock in the wilderness under the open skies and love it?
