A great time to look for birds that are still in their breeding season and therefore still very active and vocal, and for frugivorous birds, as autumn is a major fruiting season for the trees, shrubs and vines of the rainforests. And of course as always to meet with others who share your interests and be guided by some very knowledgeable people, all in wonderfully scenic forested mountains and with very comfortable accomodation and good meals.

Welcome to the International Symposium on Biodiversity Conservation and Ecotourism, where we combine a commitment to nature and social responsibility to form sustainable development in natural tourism where environmental, social, and economic aspects receive proportional attention. This seminar series brings together diverse stakeholders, including renowned experts and influential decision-makers, to explore innovative approaches, develop comprehensive strategies, and implement interventions for safeguarding biodiversity while increasing tourism’s contribution to poverty alleviation.

Join us at the International Symposium on Wildlife Biodiversity Conservation, where experts unite to explore the vital links between our planet, ecosystems, and humanity. Through discussions and workshops, we'll develop strategies to conserve wildlife and promote a sustainable future for all.

The Story of Wildlife Tourism Australia

Between 1998 and 2004, a pioneering research program studying Wildlife Tourism in Australia was conducted at the Co-operative Research Centre for Sustainable Tourism, based at Griffith University, Queensland. This program led to a joint initiative between the CRC and Tourism Tasmania to jointly host a Sustainable Wildlife Tourism Convention in Hobart in October 2001. From that conference, planning was soon underway to create a national organisation to represent zoos, sanctuaries, wildlife parks, eco0lodges in wildlife areas, responsible wildlife tours and other wildlife operators around Australia as wells on-going research pertaining to sustainable wildlife tourism. The Organisation’s intention was to further the recommendations of the conference. In December 2002, the inaugural meeting of the Australian Wildlife Tourism Action Group was held which was soon officially changed to Wildlife Tourism Australia Inc. with a mission statement of “promoting the sustainable development of a diverse wildlife tourism industry that supports conservation”.
