TGALT held it's 39th AGM on Saturday. Great day with fantastic support from Tourism Tasmania, The Inland Fisheries Service and Hydro Tasmania. These three organisations are pivotal to a successful fishing tourism sector in Tasmania and their collaboration is outstanding.
We were also grateful to have the Central Highlands Council represented, as another important fishery partner.

TGALT has recently welcomed a new associate member to its ranks – Herne Lodge. While it is traditionally a hunting lodge, the hosts, Paul and Shauna, have also developed a fantastic private fishery that, with a TGALT guide, you can visit.
Located on St Patrick’s Plains in the Tasmanian Central Highlands, this fly fishery was started with brown trout brought in from the Great Lake and from Arthurs Lake. Now, after four years, the lake boasts a population of healthy brown trout spawned in the lake's own feeder creek.
If you are interested in visiting this new fishery make sure you ask about it when you contact one of TGALT's guides. Visit our ‘Find a Guide’ page at https://www.troutguidestasmania.com.au/listing-category/guides/
Just a few of the wonderful images from the Trout Guides and Lodges library, Springtime is just one of the fantastic periods in Tasmania's fishing season.
Securing the services of one of TGALT's professional guides is a great way to tackle the challenges of fishing in Tasmania. With so many locations, such variable conditions and so many fly options a TGALT guide can transform a frustrating visit to a memorable holiday. And, of course, for those of you wanting to try fly fishing for the first time, what better way to do it than with a TGALT guide.
And, for those of you wondering about the impact of the World Fly Fishing Championships, there's two things to remember:
- they are only using five waters in a state that boasts A Thousand Lakes and hundreds of km of fishable rivers; and
- the competitors are now barred from fishing on the competition waters until the championships start. The lakes are accessible to everybody else up until the WWFC starts and the two rivers are closed to everybody one week ahead of the competition.
There's really no reason not to be planning your next visit to Tassie. Let us be your guide, provide your accommodation or set you up with your gear.

Great Spring sight fishing in Tassie - right now!
Come on down before the World Fly Fishing Championships 2019 in the first week of December and have a ball - in our case have a fish!
The lake margins are fishing really well, with quality fish caught in just a few centimetres of water, chasing frogs, tadpoles and anything else they can find in these freshly flooded edges.
Unweighted Woolly Buggers, Fur Flies, nymphs and Mrs Simpsons all working well and the good news is: hardly anybody around at present. Not only that, but we have had some good rains across the eastern half lately, so as well as Woods Lake, Penstock, Arthurs Lake, Lake Echo, 19 Lagoons in the highlands, Lake Leake & Tooms in the east are firing up with rising water levels.
On top of that we are starting to get reports of clients picking up fish on dry flies already in some of the lowlands waters. YES the MAYFLY have arrived!!
Steal a march on the WFFC competitors, book a guide or just come on down soon, it's firing up fast!
