Informed choice is vital and, so much of all you need is inside you!

Understanding ‘Why we are Who we are, is puzzling, challenging, even affronting.
It’s critical to understand how to ‘take charge’ through recalling the influence of early positive experiences; seemingly inconsequential, yet significant and powerful!

• Strong protection from my German Shepherd-Yorkie, when in harm’s way.
• Deep calm, breathing the strong scent of Gardenias in ‘Grannie’s Garden.’
• Creative expression in colour, shape and design…

You might recall the lyrics of ‘My Favourite Things’ - Oscar Hammerstein II

Just as I sought deep solace in my early childhood with immersion in PCE’s, I have often wondered with the utmost sincerity, that in the direst moments, recalling deeply important values, may be the reason any of us ‘might decide to stay’ and, seek deserved help.

While society must acknowledge that ACEs impact approximately 75% of the population, with effects varying from harsh to devastating; the incredibly affirming, empowering, even liberating effects of PCEs, must be recognised.

Acknowledgement of Positive Childhood Experiences fosters emotional resilience and well-being. These formative moments, such as having a stable support system, engaging in enriching activities, or feeling loved and valued, play a crucial role in shaping a child's development and, our future.

By recognising and nurturing these positive influences, individuals are empowered to build healthier relationships, manage stress more effectively, and navigate life's challenges with confidence, response-ability and resilience.

For you, our children’s sake, and towards deserved nurturing of developing human beings, let’s foster utmost potential, for quality contribution to society.

My Story | Your Story | Our Story™ - Trauma Education Matters, because…

'Children's Faces’ are determined by ‘Experiences!’

"2023, landmark Australian Child Maltreatment Study (ACMS) surveyed 8,500 Australians 16 y/o+, evidencing high prevalence of childhood maltreatment in Australia.

More than a 1/4 of young people 16-24 years experienced between 3-5 types of abuse in childhood; adding to data from the Australian Institute of Family Studies, estimating 72 per cent of Australian children were exposed to at least 1 adverse childhood experience, and more than 50% were exposed to 2+ by the age of 11!’”

Awareness can inform positive decision-making and pro-activity against further harm, and towards deserved healing.

Trauma informed training wasn’t in place in my childhood. No one noticed, or dared to speak about:

• Deep, neck bruising on return to school after 3 weeks (7 y/o)

• Hyper-talkative behaviour (I craved to be heard!)

• Pulling out of eye-lashes and methodical skin gauging.

All distinctive signs of a desperate need for compassionate attention, seeking some form of control.

In saying this 'subtle’ signs, are difficult for adults to identify. However, protective processes can help now!

Despite an array of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), I share homage to caring role models who instilled Positive Childhood Experiences (PCEs), the Signature Strengths® that gave me choices to appreciate ‘good’ in life, and not inadvertently lead to alcoholism, drug addiction, harming others, or crime.

We must acknowledge that negative experiences (ACEs 0-14) configure neurological patterning.

"Childhood is the foundation for life and affects a person's future trajectory. Every Australian child deserves… the opportunity what a safe and positive childhood offers.” Dr Philip Lowe, Future Generation Australia.

Not every child is so fortunate, and it’s society’s responsibility to educate for ‘response-able’ parenting.

It may seem improbable that psychological and physical harm, deceit, and coercive control affected my early development, and persevered well into my adulthood. After many negative childhood events and discovering the nature of my Father’s death, not only did I 'remain in effect' of my upbringing, there was now threat to my child.

“Karelynne, you are a constant reminder of your Father to your Mother. That's unsafe. Would you allow any other adult to treat you in this way? You are not safe in her presence, nor is your child.” BB-Psychologist.

My pursuit of understanding, and studies seeks to serve justice about ‘Why We Are Who We Are’, to ‘be the best of who I am, to help others, be the best they are, and can be!’

Trauma education is complex, and to support healthy development, it implores deep understanding throughout society, with strong intervention, towards prevention and healing.

My Story | Your Story | Our Story™ - Threads That Matter, because...
"We deserve not to be what happened to us; we deserve to be what we wish to become." Carl Jung.
The crowd stood and roared… “why don’t we know more about ‘this’(Neurolinguistic Practice NLP) in education and business!’
It was February 2009 and seated among hundreds at The Sydney Convention Centre, I curiously pursued the study of NLP, to compliment educational developmental psychology. I was fascinated about empowerment through use of language!
And yet, as unbelievable as it may seem, I had never understood the depth of that drive, who I really was, or where I belonged. In fact, there was always a caution, in fact an actual threat to acknowledge ‘who I truly was.’
I suppressed trying to understand, because:
• The little girl needed permission to speak, and couldn’t.
• Memories formed secrets, and what if I found my voice to question?
• Not speaking became protection against further abandonment and harm.
So, I remained silent about my past, until I heard Christopher Howard (Int. renown NLP trainer) share his story of how values (feelings, attitudes and beliefs) form, and the subconscious decisions we make, that can remaining limiting to affect ‘how we are who we are!’
Through Chris’ story, based on the work of Prof. Morris Massey – Sociologist: ‘We are who we are because of Significant Emotional Events in Life.’ (SEE); I began to understand ‘why I am who I am’, because of values formed at influential, impactful, and traumatic times.
Significant experiences, are deeply embedded in our neurology, forming both negative and positive patterns (threads) in life.
Now, thanks to the extensive research of Vincent Felitti. MD (co-Principal Investigator - Centers for Disease Control, of the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and Dr. Brian Alman PhD, I understand the immediate and ongoing effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), and also importantly, the power in recalling... Positive Childhood Experiences (PCEs).
The *THREADS THAT MATTER because they are:
• Why you (and I) are here,
• How you (and I) have achieved and what if,
• Even though all endured, you and I can be, all we desire to be!
To understand the results of ‘life experiences’ was cathartic, and to work towards undoing negative ‘threads’ to become decisive about what no longer serves me, is liberating.
I speak for this to also be your choice in wellbeing.
Insight to the ‘threads’ that form who we are, is key to deserved personal empowerment and self-esteem, that must be valued to regain quality of life, prevent loss of life, and sustain wellbeing.

Every Possibility Begins with a ‘Seed’ of Purpose.
My Story | Your Story | Our Story™… Do you have the best understanding of ‘Why You Are Who You Are?
I certainly didn’t, until I allowed myself to understand, how life experiences shaped me, and how this understanding gave me choices.

Let’s consider the possibilities of acknowledging your life experiences, accepting the learning, and appreciating the choice to acknowledge and value the best of who you are, and can be… personally and professionally.

Everyone has ‘history’, that’s human development. Although, not all history may have been what we wanted, or chose. In fact, it may have been harsh.

• Fact is, that our history has influenced who we are: genetically, psychologically and physiologically... it is foundational to health and wellbeing.

• Fact is, that each of us have both Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and Positive Childhood Experiences (PCEs). Each ACE and PCE has it’s own intrinsic influence and value… one that may have been interruptive, intrusive, influential or traumatic. None to be compared in the effect of personal experience, and each to be rightfully addressed to support health, wellbeing and achievement.

• Fact is, that the more we seek to understand ‘why we are who we are’ the greater the propensity to be discerning about what values (feelings, attitudes and beliefs), we hold to be true.

I share with you because, at any point in life, you can become discerning and in charge of how much each value, each pattern of behaviour, is of negative or positive influence… specifically what patterns are no longer of use, and those that can become ‘seeds’ to support wellbeing and success!

Many times, our unidentified subconscious influences (values formed through experiences) are affecting, even driving our mental health and wellbeing… let’s identify the ‘seeds’ of purpose that are founded in your Positive Childhood Experiences (PCEs) and allow them to become your Signature Strengths®!

How is Your Sixth Grader Coping with Transition to High School?

Once, your self-confident, smiling sixth grader was full of childlike exuberance and curiosity. They would eagerly share their ‘treasures’, invite you to watch movies together, and cuddle while sharing innocent secrets.

Now, it seems almost overnight, that familiar primary schooler has transformed into a sixth grader who might seem like a different person altogether! This change is influenced by a mix of internal factors (hormones, brain development, and worries) and external ones (peer interactions, social media).

Your sixth grader may experience a whirlwind of emotions: sweet, silly, sulky, solemn, sarcastic, and sad. Sometimes, they may simply stare at you blankly—leaving you wondering what’s going on in their minds. [Ref: Leslie Crawford, Education Author]

It’s essential to remember: behaviour does not define the child; there are always underlying reasons for their feelings and actions. Every sixth grader navigates this transformative school year in their own way.

Are you hearing this about, or from your Young Person?
‘Disinterested, Disappointed… Disengaged, and unhappy with their results?
There are always reasons for ‘feelings and behaviour!’

Now I know that’s an unusual expression, and yet until we’re open to understanding ourselves, our reactions and feelings, how can they be openly ‘responsible!’

Although, to be even better understood by parents (none of us are perfect!)… to receive teacher ‘feedback’ constructively, with a fresh attitude and improved self-esteem, there’s every propensity to improve self-confidence, develop greater ‘response-ability’ and not only make progress, they can deservedly, feel good about themselves, their progress and their achievement!

As much as we desire our children to experience achievement, they’re not always going to ‘get it right.’ That’s part of natural learning progression, and no-one is ‘perfect.’
